Around the Big East

For the sake of the league & the past rivalry, I hope SH can get the resources to compete. A top heavy BE is not good. The BE needs Nova to get with it too obviously.
No reason why Seton Hall can’t pull some money together for NIL and attract some Jersey kids to play in the Big East. Rutgers still sucks so the door is not closed.

The Conference would clearly benefit from a good SH. Finding what they need is their problem. We’ve spent years on our own problems and I am feeling pretty good where we are at.

This whole Kevin Willard saga is kinda off putting. Apparently has completely quit on his team even though he has a sweet 16 game tonight.

I understand taking the nova job, but finish out the season, be professional, and then move on. This has become a complete side show and the Maryland fans have turned on him.
Did the same thing at SHU when he mentally checked out on them when he knew he was going to UMD. They got pummeled by TCU in the 8/9 game that year. This one is way worse and he's handled this so poorly. I think at this point he hopes they would have lost to Colorado State over the weekend.

I get Villanova wants to bring in a good Coach. However, do they really want to get in bed with this snake? Willard seems like the anti Villanova type of guy. My guess is that this could or would be a move that ends very poorly.

Whether he intended it or not Willard now has substantial leverage in negotiations with both Villanova and Maryland.

Villanova should have hired Richard Jr.

This guy is going to be a major problem for us next year. We have to make sure to keep Zuby, Prey and get another big that can counter him. Strategy should be to run the heck at him and get him into foul trouble.

The guy wins, is he likeable? No way.
Loyalty and honoring commitments or as good as the person making them. This is the world right now in so many ways, self absorbed and self centered.

does he really win, though?

I mean sure he "wins" but idk I personally hoped a job like Villanova could attract someone better than a guy with 3 tournament wins in 18 years. But the market just doesn't seem that great this year

Gotta look at it from perspective that if he could win like he did in the BE with SH, have to believe he could win bigger in the BE with one of the premier jobs.

I am sure he will do fine with Nova and they will start getting back to NCAA tournaments. I guess for me it is a question of is he THAT good that you put up with him being snakey. For Nova the answer seems to be yes. It just seems like an odd fit to me. But maybe I am underestimating how much shine came off the Nova job during the Neptune years

I’ll be honest, I Havnt really seen what’s gone on with him this last 48 hours that has everyone up in arms. How should he have handled this if he knows he’s going to Nova?

Totally agree that Willard is not the kind of guy I expected Nova to hire. But looks like I was wrong.

I get that everything has to move quickly in this era because you don't want to fall behind the 8 ball in the portal.

But the word is, and I don't have 100% confirmation of this, but text messages from players on the team seem to have leaked out, that he did not show up to the team dinner last night. An assistant coach had to give a speech to the team to not let it be a distraction. Maryland plays in the sweet 16 tonight.

In a society where it is common practice to hand in a two weeks notice before leaving a job, the least he could do is finish out this tournament run as the head coach of Maryland, do everything the head coach does, and when it is over, move on.

If someone in the midst of the best season of his coaching career can so easily mentally check out before the season is even over... I don't know... I question that guy for sure. Hope it works out for Nova and if they are ever in the elite eight or something a Kansas type job doesn't come calling

I don't understand all the Willard hate. He's not warm and fuzzy, sure. But he's got a solid track record and I would bet that Jay Wright is advising Nova on this search, so if Nova's going for him, it's with Wright's blessing. Willard also has a great relationship with Pitino by all accounts. I'd be happy to have him if I was Nova. He's a definite upgrade from Kyle Neptune, or even Richard Pitino.

Well the dinner thing sucks and would never defend him there. But the whole situation is kinda novas doing. They are going after a coach who’s coaching another team, they should be able to handle those circumstances.

You think Maryland fans would have took that well? No shot

One thing about LMF in real life is that I am a no BS guy. If you ask me a question, you're gonna get an answer. You may not like the answer, but it's going to be a legit answer. And if I say something when you're not there, you can be absolutely certain that I would say the same thing to your face. I am a believer in being real with folks.

So if I'm Willard, I am telling my team something along these lines:

Listen, you all know what the landscape is. Right now we are all part of the same team and we are all committed to the same goal. And that's who we are going to be and what we are going to do until they make us put away the balls for the season.

I know that some of you may already have ideas about what you want to do after that. You may want to test the pro waters, you may want to go someplace else where you think the grass will be greener for you either on the court or in your pocket, or you may want to stay here. I get that. But I trust you to be 100% part of this team and be 100% committed to our team goals from now until our season is over. You owe to that yourselves, your teammates, your coaches, the school and the fans, who are your fellow students.

I'm in the same boat as you. You all know I have some issues with the administration about the resources they put into this program. I want the best and the most resources for our program because it gives you, me, the school and our fans the best chance to succeed. I don't know if that's going to get worked out or not. If it does then I will be back here next year. If it doesn't then I will be someplace else next year. But from now until we put the balls away I am all in for this ride with you the same as you're all in it with me.

[If he's already made his call then he'd have to edit the end to say that he and the admin don't see eye to eye on resources so he's probably going to be somewhere else next year, of course.]

I don't know how Maryland fans would take that, but as long as he's up front about it I have no problem. It's business as usual these days.

Now, if he isn't up front about it and hangs his team out to dry, that I have an issue with.
