Around the Big East

Kind of a silly list/exercise to make something about IMO. Using our favorite son Mully, who I will not say anything about negative as a coach because he’s our favorite son, you can start ticking off a whole bunch of really good coaches/legends - Wright, Coach K, Jimmy B etc. I think Zags must be covering the Hall this year or something for a new gig.

Agree that the list is silly. However, when you take into account the schools he was coaching at it increases my respect for him as a coach. St Peters in the MAAC made a run to the Elite 8. Seton Hall, who most said was doomed because of NIL money has beaten some very good teams this year. Shaheen has done an admirable job at schools where is is very hard to win.

Holloway has as safe a job as possible in today’s world. But I wonder if he doesn’t eventually leave for a bigger job with the allure of NIL money.

He may not want to be “stuck” at a place where he will more often than not be on the outside looking in, no matter how much he loves Seton Hall.

Sha's done a good job to have this team at 3-1 in the league after a bad out of conference performance.

I think the SPU stuff gets a bit overblown when talking about his overall coaching ability. It isn't like he "killed it" in that league. He never finished first in his four seasons. All the credit for that miraculous Elite 8 run, but was that catching lightning-in-a-bottle for 2 weeks or is it a broader reflection of a coach who is going to win consistently at a high major level?

His Hall team this year has a talented, old, experienced starting 5. Are they more the team that has played impressively the first 4 games (despite being blown out by Xavier at X in their one loss) or the team that got destroyed by Rutgers on their home floor and had a subpar OOC? We will see. Again I didn't see them at 3-1 to start the league so he gets all the credit for righting the ship after the OOC.

The man can flat coach, which was clear even before the Elite 8 run. And his teams play the way he did. Would have been happy to have him here, but he's a NJ guy. Hope he stays at the Hall a long time, will be good for the league. Speedy Claxton also doing an excellent job.
