Around the Big East

Trilly’s take

“Rick Pitino was the crown jewel of available coaches this spring. It was no secret the Hall of Famer was ready to move on from Iona after three seasons – it was only a matter of where he would end up. Pitino ultimately landed right where he belonged – at St. John’s.”

“The New York, N.Y. native will return to Madison Square Garden as the home team’s coach for the first time since 1989. Pitino wasted no time doing what he does best – fundraising and recruiting. The Johnnies brought in an entirely new roster and retained its best player in Joel Soriano.

They’ve galvanized a fanbase desperate for relevance in the college hoops landscape and tapped into the bounties of resources NYC has to offer. Pitino only has a handful of years left on the sidelines, but you won’t see anyone outwork him while he’s still around.”

Did not realize McDermott has tense relationship w relighting AD per Trilly
according to Trilly, whoever he is; he also offers an enigmatic connection to Cooley's move from Providence to Georgetown. I know Cooley respected John Thompson and thus maybe wants Georgetown to return to its glory days, but he doesn't explain why local boy who got Providence back to relevance wouldn't want to finish the job in Providence. I liked his take on our boy Rick who returned to his native N.Y., N.Y. (wasn't Rick born outside the City?)

The NCAA committee screwed up in 1985. SJU and Georgetown were the best two teams in the nation that year, yet they were placed on the same side of the bracket. Oklahoma and Michigan were the other #1 seeds. The Hoyas earned the top seed in the East, but we should have been on the opposite side.
We got screwed!

I believe Rick was born in Manhattan on the east side like another short Italian guy but his family moved to long island

Thought this would be interesting. When BE signed with Fox there was a massive gap in the households that had ESPN vs Fox. Check out now.
