Around the Big East 18/19

Seton Hall has now landed a pair of elite front court transfers in back-to-back off-seasons. Pirates will be "sneaky good" in 18-19. Could be REALLY good in 19-20. #shbb
Did they get Ike Obiagu, transfer from FL State?
Yes, as noted earlier in thread
Oops. Missed that. Sorry Paultz!
SH staff doing a nice job
Yeah, they seem to be. Ike was a 4*, ranked #63 nationally by 247sports out of HS.
Our Eli Wright was also a 4* and ranked #80 out of HS. But Eli 'only' a guard--not the 7-footer of our dreams!
Lots of kids flounder their 1st year in high major D1 hoops.
We shall see.

Chicago, do you pay licensee fees to Paultzman for the use of his patented phrase "We shall see"? ;) :)

Lol.
Yup, Paultz demands it!

I agree, it wont be as good at the top but it will be deeper 1-10. Xavier hasnt missed a beat since Mack left and should still be top 2 with Villanova next season. Cooley will have Providence dancing again. Marquette on paper has enough talent to win the league next year. To me thats the top tier for next season; as things currently stand. After May 30th the picture should be much clearer. The decisions by Ponds, Spellman, DiVincenzo, Govan, and Strus will be huge for the league. Rosters like Creighton's, who recently lost Thomas to the draft, are far from set. 6-7 bids is my guess, the Big East is a top 3 conference along with the ACC and Big 12. That won't change next year. I think with Ponds back we are in that 5-7 range, which gives us a chance to earn a bid. Non conference schedule will be important because we will be in the middle of the pack in conference.
Xavier top 2?
They won't even dace this year.

Xavier may not make the dance next year, but I do not expect them to be anything less than competitive. Staff went out and signed 3 grad transfers to fill the gap left by their 4 or 5 departures from last year's rotation. They also bring in a 7'1 260 pound unheralded freshman recruit - just the kind of kid they have been successful with in the past. Xavier is too good a program not to field a competitive team next year. In general, while the BE may be down a bit from the past couple of years, I still expect it to get at least 5 teams in.

I just found out a friend is Anthony Nelson's uncle. I never put two and two together (probably because I'm out of the country and don't pay as much attention). He said he shot from 6'1" to 6'4" during HS and no one else in the family is anywhere near that tall. I'm rooting for the kid (except our 2 games versus SHU).

Well Earlington went well.

Kid looks like an athletic big guard. A 3*, ranked #198 nationally by 247sports in the 2018 Class.
As you say Gman, good luck to him when the Hall isn't playing us.

Seems we get no respect.
Rivals doesn't list SJU in either Kofi's or Jalen's Top 5.
We're buried way down Kofi's list, but AZ State, Auburn, Cal, UCONN, FL State, G*Town are his Top 6.
Jalen's page may be dated, the only Major in his Top 5 is Florida.
Again, we're way down his list as well.
Bumming me out.
Hoping old info.
It's called alphabetical order. No need to be alarmed.

Listen to a handful of folks (Paultz, Happy, fordham, '72, a couple others, and occasionally, myself included) when it comes to pertinent info.
Thanks Dink.
Didnt notice that!
Got to lighten up!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the letter "S" come before "U" as in UCONN in our alphabet?
I suppose you also have all of the "The"s together on your alphabetized lists as well?

Trump uses it too, but word is he has reneged on paying the fee.

The other difference is that Trump is a loser.

UNLV coach, Marvin Menzies, was interviewed on radio earlier and was very enthusiastic re the recruit from Cameroon. Described him as a fantastic athlete, who should be a big factor. He said they had to beat out St. John's and Gonzaga for him.
I am surprised the kid chose Unlv, since the power forward spot is spoken for and they already have three other players over 6-10 competing for center minutes.

Kid knows a UNLV staff member & the HC was front and center on his recruitment.

Too bad for us, and good luck to the guy, but it does seem that UNLVs 'post' is a bit crowded.
Unlike ours--despite the rumors!

Interesting that this kid apparently chose Seton Hall over several high majors at least in part because of a connection with their new AC Tony Skinn, who is also from Nigeria. Just another example where having multiple staff members helping on recruiting is important.
Well, we hate to admit it, but Willard has done a better job than anyone we have hired in last 15 years.

Agree JF. Cannot but, to this point.
Willard’s last 4 years at SH have been very solid: 84-48, with over 20 wins the past 3; but he was 66-66 in his first 4 years, and 150-114 in his Hall tenure so far.
Because of our emptied roster in CM’s first year, I do not believe it fair to attempt to compare Mullin to Willard’s first 4 years at this point.
“We shall see”...down the road.
