Around the Big East 18/19

Incredible coup, if Marquette achieves it. To ‘steal’ an AZ native from U of AZ—despite the ‘noise’?!!? Wow.
I dream that one day soon we can sign a 5* from ‘whatever’ State.

I like Wojo. I think he'll be a prime candidate to replace coach K eventually.

Georgetown announces non-conference schedule. I'm sure the esteemed Adam will come up with some formula that this schedule is better then ours, but IMO, it's even at best (that does not justify our non-conference schedule, obvioulsy).

BTW, Adam, don't take that comment in the wrong vain. I think you do a great job breaking down this kind of stuff (even if I think you are too much of a slave to last year's numbers, I still respect what you do).

Here is players 11 through 20 on Marquette fan site list. Clark comes in at #18. Simon & Ponds not listed so both are in top 10 - no surprise there. If MH eligible, we'd have 3 in top 10 or 11.
That would make 4 in the top 20 with 3 in the top 10. That's why I feel if Heron is eligible the only team better than us is Villanova. We should finish second in the Big East

So,maybe those who Nova replaced their starters with were more talented than some of our players? In any event we should have a good in upsetting

How foolish DePaul and Loyola don't play every year, especially after last year.
Was anyone thinking that before Loyola's run last year?
I would think so. Local games would draw better, reduce travel and enhance natural rivalries. We are playing two or three schools from Baltimore that we have no history with, yet avoid playing Iona, Hofstra, Fordham, Manhattan, etc. Would you rather play Iona at MSG or Baltimore-Eastern Shore on campus?

Haha... yeah I'd like to use more than last year's rankings, but I don't think there are any projections yet for 2019. So kind of tough to compare further.

As for Georgetown, yes they have an awful schedule.... but... you guessed it. Ours will probably be worse.

Looking once again at number of top 100 and 300 plus teams from last year...
300+: Georgetown 3, SJU 4 (fewer the better)
Top 100: Georgetown 2 (not counting Illinois at 102- which would make it 3), SJU 1 (would be 2 if they draw Temple at Barclays)

So across those two categories, Georgetown wins (but only slightly).

Both teams have two away games.
SJU only has one true neutral game (I don't think Barclays games will count as neutral), while Georgetown has two neutral games in Jamaica.

So, as of today I'd say Georgetown's is better. However, their schedule is bad enough that ours could end up being better after the games are played. We'll see.

Pace Mannion (Nico's dad) and Thurl Bailey (yeah, that Thurl Bailey) are long-time friends. They briefly played with one another in Utah (Jazz) and overseas for a couple seasons. They use to also call Jazz games together, although I believe Bailey still is an announcer.

Their children are also friends (Thurl's son, Brendan Bailey, is at Marquette), hence why Mannion has Marquette in his final two.

Off-topic a bit, but I didn't know Thurl Bailey called games. Makes sense: In the (terrific) documentary on NC State's '82-'83 championship run, I was amazed when I heard him speak. A world-class baritone who could've made a fortune doing voice-over work.

And we missed our 2nd best player
And I didn't know Brendan Bailey was Thurl's son. Thanks for the info MJ.
You're welcome.
