Around College Basketball

Thankfully the team today is amazing and I'm really enjoying the ride, otherwise the Walter Clayton Jr what-if would be just another chapter in STJ lore. Florida down 3 with 2 minutes.

Florida defense definitely on par with ours, they just got better outside shooting and more size. Although they have let two open outside shots these last two possessions.

Demary's got some things to work on but he's a competitor and would fit here

If I’m advising Demary, I’m steering him to that massive vacant point-forward role Kadary carved out and is leaving behind.

What’s crazy is I think the role he plays defensively is gonna be the harder thing to replace
I agree because he's allow us to switch 1 through 5. I wonder if the other way we can maintain (and elevate...) our defense next year would be to instead go after a guy who can play the five defensively and the four offensively. We would be even bigger defensively. I have zero sources, but Magoon Gwath would be my number one priority if he's available. Moustapha Thiam is another guy but less of a threat off the dribble offensively. His three point shooting potential is tantalizing though.

Agree on the idea but I still struggle to believe guys like those two are more than just stretch 5s who can shoot but would struggle next to another interior big. Scott might play the role of the stretch 4 but he is so active and mobile on the O end cutting, moving and screening.

Give me the Yax!

Thiam I think fits into that issue. Gwath reminds me a lot of Bol Bol. He can surprisingly take it to the rack with ease. He's how I imagine how Marillac imagines Khaman Maker, lol.

Yax is the dream.

Absolutely. There was a two-week stretch where I saw Glover's quickness possibly making us a better overall defensive team due to the ability to increase pressure full court, but Kadary's half court defense is just on another level. He might be the best non-big man help defender I've see all year. And his versatility is just stupid. He covers 1-5 and he competes with 1's and 5's...it's not like he's hanging on for life hoping for a switch.

I love Gwath even more than Maker. He can cover the perimeter better with his quick feet. Maker doesn't have the same ceiling in the PnR.
