Any Update on Coach Lavin?

Coach has a disease that needs to be taken care of and that is what he is doing.  As far as players coming here or not coming here using his illness is a poor excuse. Then I guess no player should go to Texas A&M cause Coach Billy Kennedy has Parkinson's Disease. For that matter no women's player should go to Tennessee cause Coach Pat Summit has dementia. Why can't we all just let Coach Lavin do what his doctors are telling him and he will be back on his time.

In case you are wondering I am a former coach who has Parkinson's. I know what all three of the above are dealing with.

Thank you Gary. Some fans that have not been affected by serious illnesses like cancer cannot really grasp the toll it takes both physically and emotionally. Basketball is just a game and some folks should threat it as such. Be well and enjoy the holidays!

If everyone says a prayer for coach LAVIN today the power of the spoken word will manifest a positive effect to overcome all the negative!

Godbless Coach Lavin

I suspect that some on this Board will be upset with me for speaking my mind, but in my humble opinion, there is clearly something else going on with Lavin. Either Lavin is sicker than he let on or there are other factors at work.

During one of the several interviews Lavin gave, he indicated that he had a robotic prostatectomy. The avg. surgery time for a robatic prostatectomy is 2-3 hours. I recall Lavin saying that his surgery took more than five hours. Most people who have robotic prostate surgery can resume normal activities, except for heavy lifting, within a few weeks of surgery. Lavin has been out nearly three months.

Coach has repeatedly said that he is cancer free. He's also praised his doctors, which suggests that he isn't suffering from unforseen complicatinos. Yet, depite all of this, his surgery took more than five hours and he is unable or unwilling to coach after nearly three months with no return in sight. Something doesn't add up.

I am not sure where you got your information but Dr. Peter Scardino specializes in nerve-sparing radical prostatectomies and not robotic surgery. Coach had "open surgery" and he chose the nerve sparing technique because he is young (with a young wife) and because it gave him over an 80% chance of not being impotent.
Older patients (over 60) tend to chose robotic or seed implant where the recovery is less than a month. Open surgery requires over 3 months of recovery. I think coach will be back within the next few weeks, if not sooner.

LIke Marco Baldi on the other site I believe it's just a reference to a favorite player. The only player i can recall posting on the sites is Special FX

I don't think Boo Harvey's post was out of line. He stated some things I have wondered about myself and I am sure many of you have all thought about too. We are all concerned and hope for the best for his health.

Class of 72 made a ton of sense with his reply and I hope all that he said explains it perfectly and Coach is back where he belongs soon.

 It's Christmas.
Thanks for everything you've done coach since your arrival.
STJ is a much better place than before you arrived.
Take care of yourself and the hell with basketball.
If/when you return, we'll all be forever grateful.
If you never coach again, we'll be equally grateful for all you've done.
It's all about you and your wife now.
Get/stay healthy.
Nothing else matters.
Merry Christmas.

Coach is going to be back this season. I'm sure of it.

The rumors are f'ing nonsense. If he wasn't coming back he wouldn't be calling in to the games on tv.

The reason he does that is to keep his name out there and to reassure everyone. Not calling anyone out but this is so freaking nuts.

People who I trust and this is a couple of people in the know on both here and johnnyjungle who specifically don't post some info on both the sites because of how close their info is are hearing some crazy names that we are very close with in future classes. I'm not saying 2012 but after so it is what is it.

Now sure you can say yeah but Kyle Anderson was a lock but shite happens and I never said he was a lock and the people who gave told me this never said he was but thought he was close to a lock but didn't say it outright. Shite happened at the last minute.Sucks but it is what it is

I'm saying right now though I'm not on here claiming I have any inside info. But I am saying the people who told me this who post on both boards who might be cryptic at times most certainly know what they are talking about.

And the only hint I will give at anything is this. Any talk at wanting to call for Tony to take the fall for what happened with Nuri and the 3 guys ( now 2 ) would be pure crazy talk because of the position he has put us in with some of these kids.

I can understand people getting a little nervous (or even more than a little nervous) about Lavin's situation, and I think some it traces back to his surgeon's comment that the operation took an unusual lengthy seven hours because during the operation he came upon an "unexpected problem" (or words to that effect) that needed to be addressed. I know my first reaction was, What was the problem? It's never been made public -- nor should it be; it's strictly a personal matter -- but this is how rumors get started ... and when you have less than honorable people out there trying to undermine Coach's recruiting, those rumors take on a life of their own.

I still feel that exorcism is a viable alternative as long as Harrington doesn't do it. He's done enough over the years to screw up the program. Maybe Monasch should be included though. That orange skin seems a little demonic to me. Too many things have gone wrong at SJU for it to be cooincidence. Terrible thing to say on Christmas eve I know but you have to be practical and New Years is coming. Happy Holidays to all!

Found some of your statements confusing. Nipping at a little too much eggnog? :)

Unfortunately not. I hope Ricky Smith aka " Marco Baldi " is wrong or else I'm going to have to ban myself from posting for a couple of weeks for making such a bad prediction

MJ, I understand you're trying to not "out" some posters who are in-the-know, but frankly, your comments are really encouraging. Especially the part about the work Tony C is doing on the recruiting trail. NYC/Philly recruits? Or just national guys we're involved with in '13 and '14?

My best guess about Lavin is that it's likely not a fatigue thing, but rather issues with urinary incontinence which are common. It's not something I'd be discussing with the media either. Most if the time though it takes several months, not weeks to improve. Issues like that can cause difficulty in getting back to the sidelines coaching for a while but usually improves. Hopefully his issues all resolve and we can get him back soon.
