Anton Goff Leaving?

Goff is a nice guy and at least appeared to care and take fan concerns into consideration. Not sure what happened but in the past he has had a few too many drinks in public and as others have said, can have very loose lips. Maybe alcohol had something to do with it? When I spoke to him he was going on a cuss-laden tirade about how Tom Pecora was pissed he didn't get the SJ job instead of Mullin calling him a jacka$$ among other things. I remember being pretty surprised that an AD would be so brash about things. Nice guy overall but seems like he can be a bit wild. From my conversations with him off the record, he seemed to be a big Mullin supporter FWIW.

So Maher's complimentary pale ales did him in????

I liked him in the few interactions I had with him. I could see what a few others are saying. I am very familiar with the America East Conference which Hartford was in and there isn’t as much scrutiny if you say what is on your mind.

From what I hear goff is by all means gone.

I wouldnt bash anyone based on what they say after a few drinks. Some of our former players and coaches have told both funny and great stories after one too many.

On the subject of Pecora I will say that sju would truly have been his dream job. Jay wright respects him so much that he arranged for former assistant Baker Dunleavy to hire pecora since Baker had no prior gc experience. Jay looks out for his guys, and that's just a little other example.

I always thought that Chris Mullin could have been a good Director of Athletics: former player and student, contacts, fundraising,...

How are things in Espana after yesterday's match?

According to Sammy If jay loved Pecora why is he not at Nova now?

Seeme he had some similar issues at Fordham

Well. Portugal is the European Champion. We were a little unlucky (a received goal in the final minutes before halftime after a mistake by our goalkeeper and another received goal in the final minutes).

But considering that we had a new Coach three days ago it was not a bad outcome.

Thanks!!!

What ? Public figures , and Anton Goff is arguably the 3rd most visible face of a large Catholic University in the top media capital of the country , better watch what they say , drunk or not. That is just the reality of the world today. You may not like or agree with it but that is the reality of the world today. If you don’t like the public criticism or don’t want to be under a microscope don’t take a public job.

When the Goff thread broke I immediately wondered whether he'd prefer that. But we aren't paying $2 million for an AD, and I don't think Mullin stays east for something not worth his time financially.

Especially if you don't think much of the university president and think he would do a better job as president of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations rather than counting "beans" literally at a university located in the capital of the world.

I used to think Mullin would be good for AD also but you have to show up at too many events and stay longer than 10 minutes. So not feeling that role for him anymore

Sammy could give a crap about Fordham, Quinnipiac or anything TP did or didn't do relating to his coaching the game of basketball.
Ask Hit the Gym Slob why Sammy has been going photo shop crazy in tar and featgering his old friend.

De nada :) But the coach thing didn't make any difference, Spain plays the same regardless. It's time for some of the younger guys, like Isco, to step up. I thought he had a pretty good game.

This has turned into the most eventful and interesting off season and there still 4 months in front of us.

I vote Pecora for next AD.

Yes, it’s been an incredible off-season and still seems like a couple chairs have yet to be put away.
Would Pecora have an interest in the AD slot?
Would Mully support it?
IF Rice comes onboard, would the chemistry mix well among the 3 or would an explosion result?
Have no clue.
Just curious.

Since when is Sammy an expert about anything.

TP did well enough at Hofstra to score an impossible job at Fordham, where they went 2-26 the year before.

Jay loves TP and the 2 are very close.

Mr. Pecora was fired 2 full seasons ago and there seemingly has not been a rush of offers for him to resume his coaching career.

A number of above posts imply that Pecora had big time success at Hofstra. His 9 season win loss percent at Hofstra was a mediocre 55% never finishing higher than 3rd in the Colonial Athletic Association and never qualifying for the NCAAs.

Pecora’s overall 14 season career winning percent as a head coach is 46%. His Fordham team finished “DFL” 4 of the 5 years he was at the school.

Can someone elaborate on what they heard is driving this, cryptic responses aside?
His decreased Twitter activity.
Spending too much time away from job related functions.
Spending too much time out of town.

Oh wait........that's.............
Your agenda is ridiculous. Please stop.

No one implied or stated that pecora had big time success at Hofstra. By the same token as Wright's top assistant at Hofstra he was part of that success, where during that time they passed us as the bnb top program in the area.

If he wasn't an able assistant, Wright wouldn't have suggested to Dunleavy to hire him.

What I did say, and what the post article suggested at the time of his hire was that turning around Fordham would be a very difficult job.

Apparently folks who know college sports and not just blog about it here thought enough of him to hire him at Hofstra, the Fordham, and as an assistant at Quinnipiac.

If people here give credit to Dunlap for lavins success, does pecora deserve his share as a wright assistant back then.

We could do far worse than adding a guy who knows basketball and is well liked by area hs coaches to our staff.

I was simply responding to a supposed conversation a poster had with Goff with Goff bashing Pecora profanely.
