Anton Goff Leaving?
Not surprising if true that he has less direct involvement on basketball matters.

He's also been absent from his usual St Johns official retreats etc over past few weeks.

If we need AD again, Ed Manetta went to Manhattanville College last fall. Wonder if that would materialize for interest either way. I'd think they would go for new blood again though.
No No NO.
He and albano are very tight .
keep him far away, very far away.

If history has taught us anything, I'd expect Goff to exit with a fat buyout deal, to be followed by ticket price hike. Heard Mitch Richmond is on the short list for new A.D.

Considering past posts here discussing the power structure, I'm not shocked he'd leave. But I'd be even more shocked at being able to hire/keep anyone with ambition.

We'll end up with an old guy who comes out of retirement just for a paycheck and doesn't mind having no say over the basketball program, or someone coming from D-II or D-III just happy for a pay raise.

If rumors are true that Goff is on his way out a possible scenario for this is he was pressuring Mullin to make a staff change and so Mo did.
Heard some rumblings that this has to do with other things. Hope that is not true
Okay, I’ll bite.
What kind of “other things”?
You would think that the Wilpons are running St. John's basketball.

SJU has never gone top shelf in hiring a replacement for Carnesecca, Lapchick for that matter, hiring the assistant coach Lou.

Frank McGuire was an easy heist by North Carolina but simply paying him the extra 2 thousand or so he needed to help medical bills for a sick kid (if memory serves me correctly)

When Lou left for the Nets, they hired assistant Frank Mulzoff at a salary of about 18,000 - what SJU faculty was paid.

So is it any wonder that we slipped from the ranks of the high echelon teams to the bottom rungs of the Big East and among the dogs of college basketball.

After Mahoney and Fraschilla were gone, they "went very deep" for SJU but not the market to pay Jarvis a salary of 700-800K, which included to and sneaker money. When Jarvis derailed, they scaled back to a lower salary for Roberts, as if Jarvis' wipeout proved you should pay that kind of money. They "opened the vault" for Lavin, but still his salary wasn't in the range of elite coaches, and he was sort of damaged goods. Mullin is essentially making what Lavin was paid once sticker shock wore off and they also realized the uncertainty that $2 million would buy.

Big East basketball generates a lot of money. The way SJU operates is sort of the way small market baseball teams do with their revenue share of tv money. Bank it.

I'm sure Goff came cheap coming from Hartford, and I really don't know if he is or isn't capable of running the athletic department, or he is simply not given the chance.

Aggravated today about other stuff. Sorry for the negativity.
I think Musselman earns $1 million at Nevada. Paying multi-millionaire Mullin 2 million without one day of coaching experience shows what a fck up this current SJU president has been.
I wouldn't blame Goff for leaving after seeing St. John's athletics operate as if they are in receivorship .
I am under the impression that he was not at Mullin/Lou C Golf Outing either.
He was not there last night. Some former players showed up: Marcus Hattan, Tyrone Grant, Anthony Glover, Lamont Hamilton, Kyle Cuffe, Sharif Fordham, and Zendon Hamilton. It was a very nice event.

Nothing beats the direct approach.
...I'll just say it. Some type of an NCAA or FBI investigation?
Which of the 2 organizations has less credibility at the moment?

His decreased Twitter activity.
Spending too much time away from job related functions.
Spending too much time out of town.
