I thought this thread was about Carl Cherenfant--duh! Silly me!
I don't have a list of salaries in front of me, but I'm afraid the going rate for regular tournament appearances may actually be a floor of $3 million. Do you see St. John's going up to that if Anderson is asked to leave? I'm not sure they do. I don't think the mid-major stud turned high major flameout du jour would get $3 million from us.If we have $2 million a year to shell out to a coach we should expect to make the tournament regularly. That is not a high bar!
Itās all about NIL now. If we can provide recruits with adequate NIL opportunities we will recruit well enough. If we canāt then we wonāt. Thatās the bottom line.I don't have a list of salaries in front of me, but I'm afraid the going rate for regular tournament appearances may actually be a floor of $3 million. If it's 100 percent NIL, why not take that $2+ million and pay players directly and simply hire a good high school coach for $175,000?Itās all about NIL now. If we can provide recruits with adequate NIL opportunities we will recruit well enough. If we canāt then we wonāt. Thatās the bottom line.
Because the schools canāt provide the NIL money. Thatās not how it works. If it's 100 percent NIL, why not take that $2+ million and pay players directly and simply hire a good high school coach for $175,000?
I donāt care how ācompetentā or āprofessionalā the internal structure is. I care about results and Iāve yet to see any. If we donāt make the tournament this year, CMA will have done worse than his two predecessors and they did not set the bar particularly high. $2 million plus salary is āmarketā for a competitive program in a top conference which we have not been.
Youāre comparing nyc to Omaha, Cincinnati and Providence. We were very relevant in the 80s and we were selling out the Garden consistently in the Artest years. And btw, Iād be thrilled to enjoy Providence, Creighton and Xavierās recent success (Xavier has struggled under Steel but before that they were tremendously successful).
The loser expectations and excuses that many on this Board have are infuriating. If we have $2 million a year to shell out to a coach we should expect to make the tournament regularly. That is not a high bar!
Let's rename the Arena to a corporate sponsor and take that cash and funnel it into a slush fund for N$L deals.
I mean it's gotta be worth at least 10 years @ $137.45 per year

Let's start selling Alcohol and back the Sly Fox Arena. With the way our team has been the last 20 years alcohol fueled sales sent to NIL could get us a final 4 teamFanDuel Arena?
Or...maybe the 3,000 most diehard fans pony up $20 a month and voila...you have an NIL slush fund of $720k a year to win a couple of recruiting battles.Let's rename the Arena to a corporate sponsor and take that cash and funnel it into a slush fund for N$L deals.
