Anderson Conversation

Somebody mentioned "buzz". In case anybody forgot, we actually did about 8 pages of posts on "What is buzz". Oh, please, can we return to that discussion? šŸ¤Ŗ

If we have $2 million a year to shell out to a coach we should expect to make the tournament regularly. That is not a high bar!
I don't have a list of salaries in front of me, but I'm afraid the going rate for regular tournament appearances may actually be a floor of $3 million. Do you see St. John's going up to that if Anderson is asked to leave? I'm not sure they do. I don't think the mid-major stud turned high major flameout du jour would get $3 million from us.

Itā€™s all about NIL now. If we can provide recruits with adequate NIL opportunities we will recruit well enough. If we canā€™t then we wonā€™t. Thatā€™s the bottom line.

If it's 100 percent NIL, why not take that $2+ million and pay players directly and simply hire a good high school coach for $175,000?

Because the schools canā€™t provide the NIL money. Thatā€™s not how it works.

Let's rename the Arena to a corporate sponsor and take that cash and funnel it into a slush fund for N$L deals.

I mean it's gotta be worth at least 10 years @ $137.45 per year

I donā€™t care how ā€œcompetentā€ or ā€œprofessionalā€ the internal structure is. I care about results and Iā€™ve yet to see any. If we donā€™t make the tournament this year, CMA will have done worse than his two predecessors and they did not set the bar particularly high. $2 million plus salary is ā€œmarketā€ for a competitive program in a top conference which we have not been.

I understand your position. Let's just say you and I have big differences in what we think the ceiling for this program is. I did end with the same statement that not going to the dance would require hard questions so we may agree on that but at least, unlike the last two coaches, CMA would leave the program in better shape than he found it, iow not a dumpster fire. If you felt good about Lav and Mullin's tourney teams more than what a mess they were and what the future looked like we will again have to disagree. Your last statement shows a blatant misunderstanding of hiring practices, so I won't even address it.

Youā€™re comparing nyc to Omaha, Cincinnati and Providence. We were very relevant in the 80s and we were selling out the Garden consistently in the Artest years. And btw, Iā€™d be thrilled to enjoy Providence, Creighton and Xavierā€™s recent success (Xavier has struggled under Steel but before that they were tremendously successful).

The loser expectations and excuses that many on this Board have are infuriating. If we have $2 million a year to shell out to a coach we should expect to make the tournament regularly. That is not a high bar!

I believe the program can achieve the successes of Providence, Creighton and Xavier and hope that it will too if not with this coach then the next or the next or the next. But the school will have to continue to pay more and more with each hire to get there and if/when each hire doesn't work out I expect to hear more whining about having to pay the market rate like there was an option. Won't make STJ and their Jamaica home nationally relevant though. Just in the national conversation.

That's not how any of this works. SMDH

Well the 25 highest paid coaches make $3.25 mill and up so you might have something there. I'll leave the COL comparisons out of this. LOL
