An Open Letter to Chris Monasch/ St John's Admin

I don't think we need to change conferences. The Vatican League is the perfect fit.

If Lavin has given up on SJU (if there's another explanation for the completely empty recruting pipeline, then I'm all ears), then we need to move on.

How about Richard Pitino?

I like Richard Pitino a lot, but I think he has higher ambitions and would be gone after a little success here. Plus he's probably in line to take his dad's job in a couple of years.

i'd take a chance on PITINO jr in a NY minute. He turned the Minnesota program around faster than Lavin has ours. If he left after 4-5 years so what? As long as we got to the dance 3 out of 4 years. Plus, it's never guaranteed to follow in your Father's footsteps and L'ville fans I've talked to, aren't enamored of building a Pitino dynasty.

Ok. I'm convinced he'd be a massive upgrade and why not try if a change is being made? However, he just signed his deal there a year ago, overachieved and won the NIT. I just don't think our current situation pulls Pitino away from Minn. yet. Could be wrong and I'd be thrilled if he were here.

Came across this online (whether you agree with the author or not) it's a breath of fresh air compared to the negativity around the program lately.

Counting down to the first posters saying "He's in denial!", "He's a homer!"' "He's looking through rose-colored glasses!", and finally, "He doesn't know what he's talking about!"

My take? He's a fan with an opinion, just like all of us here.

Reminds me of oldman and us Congress from the Norm days. Two blowhards who along with Harrington caused us to suffer irreparable damage by needlessly prolonging the Norm years. Damage, as evidenced by this current crisis, from which we are still trying to recover.

A personal favorite of Moose. Who I haven't noticed around lately. Am I missing his posts, or has he been on strike?
Someone please send out a Moose call! I thought I missed where he must have posted he would be away for a while and wouldn't be posting because until you brought it up no one has even mentioned it. My theory is Moose was so disgusted with how the season played out he is afraid of what he might say and apparently needs a long cooling off period. come back to us Moose! We'll get you through this! :)

It's funny to me how our fan base gets criticized for not showing up to games and the lack of support we give to the school. But in light of recent events, can you really blame fans for not giving a crap? I know I sound like a broken record, but this team has not won an NCAA Tournament game since 2000. 14 years and the school does not have 1 win to speak of in tournament play. We can go back and forth all day about this and that, but that's what it all comes back to. This school not only misses the tournament every year, but when it occasionally does make it gets bounced in the 1st round. No excitement in pretty much a decade and a half.

And to compound this issue, we fans now have to deal with a completely fubar situation unfolding before our very eyes. Kids leaving for the NBA or transferring cause they clearly do not want to play for our coach. A coaching staff that basically took the recruiting year off and will now attempt to sell us that a middling 3 star recruiting and troubled JUCO will get us back on track. A head coach who is currently out in California right now instead of actually communicating with the fans who are rooting for him to succeed. And let's not forget the lack of coaching intangibles that even causal basketball fans can notice game in and game out. We turn out for the Providence game only to see them go down by 17 before they decide to wake up and play. And let's even go into the Robert Morris game where the players pretty much decided they didn't want to play anymore this season.

Are fans really supposed to get all excited about this? And sacrifice their time and money to go and watch a losing program continue to lose. This isn't just about Lavin, this is about the last 2 decades in which we as fans have pretty much been crapped on repeatedly.

I would be in favor of Little Rick, but don't think it is far to say he has turned around Minn faster than what Lavin did in year one at SJU. Little Rick inherited a team that went to the tourney last year and won a game. And I believe that at least some of the main players were back, and he didn't make the dance (granted a bubble team). Lavin & Co., as well as all know by now, took a team that never won and made them into a top 25 squad. And he landed our best recruiting class in a decade. Not happy with how things are transpiring of course.

I agree with everything you said
But, right now, it IS about Lavin
He's had 4 years to turn this thing around and he hasn't
To add insult to injury, things are getting worse by the day, not better
I wouldn't give Lavin an extension right now
If things don't get better next year (and they don't look like they will right now), it's time to say adios!!!
By the way, LOVE the "fubar" reference!! One of my all time favorite expressions

Can't see how it makes sense to even keep him for next season. People can talk about Joey Delarosa, Adonis Delarosa, Keith Thomas, or whoever the hell else is out. The fact is the 2014 recruiting season will not be a good one for St. John's. Lavin sat out the recruiting season and is now in scramble mode to salvage something. However, the problem is by my count there are now 6 scholarship players on the roster (that is assuming of course Harrison and/or Jordan do not join the list of recent transfers). So what's he going to do?

And on top of all this, there is nobody on this board that is going to convince me that this won't hurt his "monster" 2015 and 2016 classes. All an opposing coach has to do is say to a recruit "Why would you want to play for somebody that lost his entire team to transfer? Do you realize nobody wanted to play for him?" And the worst part is it's true. If I'm a respective recruit, why would I want to play for somebody who had similar monster classes in the past and lost everyone to transfer?

UConn is aggressively pursuing Briscoe. Would suspect the attention their guards are getting nationally will be more appealing to him & his dad than the volatility of our program recently.

Unfortunately, I agree. Uconn's run to the championship game makes them a clear favorite for Briscoe's services. I was hoping that Ollie's recruiting would be a big drop from Calhoun's but this year may help him stay at elite level.
