America's 35 Best Pizzas

I really can't fathom how a San Francisco place made the list. I've had well-known ones out here that taste good at the time, but then hole-in-the-wall joints in Elmont, L.I., blow them away whenever I'm back in my old town and am eating with a buddy.

The link is not loading right on my computer, but if L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn isn't near the top of that list, the list is garbage. Best square/sicilian slice I've ever had.
In terms of Long Island, I was always a fan of Carmela's on the border of Massapequa and Seaford on Merrick Rd.

I'm not going to lie, being a New Yorker, but I had the deep dish at Lou Malnati's in the heart of Chicago and it was one of the best things I've ever had in my life. When the wife was pregnant, I surprised her by ordering 4 pies via Tastes of Chicago and even though they weren't like the restaurant, they were definitely sufficient. They cam shipped in dry ice and they broke down to 20 bucks a pie.

Spumoni Gardens is good, but back when I was going to St. John's I always thought Lenny and John's on Flatbush was much better. I don't think they hit all the requirements that 72 listed, but they were doing something right.

As for pizza in Italy, I agree with others MJ that you must have had it in the wrong city. Had pizza in Rome a few times, and it was without a doubt the best I've ever had. I could have eaten it all day long there. If you ever get back, give it another try.

Come on eh? Pizza is a simple dish like all things Italian. If you use the best ingredients, especially fresh mozzarella and the finest San Marzanno tomatoes, you really can't go wrong (provided you have a good oven). The argument over which is best isn't relevant in my opinion. I have had great pizza in Italy and in New York. Pizza is pizza.Just make sure the ingredients are right and the place uses a good wood fired oven.

Nominate Little Vincent's (Ronkonkoma-Suffolk Co. L.I.) and Umberto's.

gotta be related to the little vin cents in huntington. Oh man I love that pizza

Grimaldis personal pies in garden city with extra cheese, meatballs and onions is literally the prefect pizza

Grims GC is definitely better than Grims Brooklyn Heights! Brooklyn has that mean old bastard harassing the customers while in GC they welcome you with open arms.
BTW, you will never see a pizza with meatballs on it in Italy! LOL!

you know what ? when my girlfriend and I were in Italy a couple of years ago I didn't love the pizza. Had a slice in Venice at a touristy place that was real good but other than that nothing memorable. Now the wine and pasta a completely different story but the pizza itself didn't wow us

The baked ziti slice at Di Raimos in huntington is real good.

If anyone knows of a great slice of Sicilian let me know. The best I ever had was at " Delicious Pizza " in Glen Cove when I was a kid them they sold it and the new owner f'd it up and when one of the sons opened up a new one like 10 years later it was never the same

Best Sicilian slice I know of now is Colosseo in Port Jefferson. However the best Sicilain used to be right on the corner of Utopia and Union near St. John's. It was the old John's Pizza which also was a big supporter of the team.
Slices before and after the game were great. I used to bring whole Sicilain pies home. Sadly it closed and was remodeled by the new owners. I asked later when eating there what happened and the woman owner told me
"how could you like that pizza" "the place was dirty" I didn't care the Sicilain was great and blew away her clean pizza. Needless to say I didn't go to there for pizza anymore. I remember eating pizza with Ron Plair from the team there, Most of the players used to go there, On a side note, never cared for Looie's favorite Dante's pizza.

I have to try Colosseo's Sicilian. Haven't been able to best Umbertos in New Hyde Park for Sicilian. Time for a showdown.

I don't know where Umbertos gets their cheese but to me it's been consistently the best to me for many years. Pizzas vary alot but good ingredients are a great thing. I used to drive a long way to get to Umbertos and never regretted it.

You are right that pizza is a simple dish.. A simple dish that is very easy to get wrong.. Crust is far more important than the things you mentioned IMO .
