All Time best transfer into SJU

JSJ just found out Kevin Loughery was not a 4 year man at SJU, thanks. I remember hearing about him and LeRoy Ellis being good NBA'ers and proud they were from SJU.

So I forgot about Matt Brust, loved when he would pound the palms of his hands on the floor when setting up defensively, although it was wasting energy and a little hot-doggie, I liked the fierce way he played.

No one else showing Searcy love?

The Truth is the obvious choice if we include Jucos, I was thinking pure transfers.

Lapchick from the Knicks and Carnesecca from the Nets. This is what happens when you stare at a tree for hours at a time.

You are thinking Matt Brust. Bross was a 4 year guy and had a cup of coffee with the Mets
Looking just at 4 year transfera, after Loughery I think of Matt Brust and Ken McIntyre.
I could see his face and school North Carolina but couldn’t recall his name - thanks Fuschia:
Matt Brust - gave us tough strong minutes!

Just googled Matt Brust and his brother Chris was a NC teammate of Michael Jordan!
The word used for Brust was INTENSITY!
Boy would he thrive under CMA!

Monmouth's Finest

Inbound - Walter Berry

How about outbound- I would go with Roshown McLeod who went to Duke and was 1st round NBA pick. Happened during Mahoney era.

For non Junior College transfers hard to get beyond Reggie Carter, Ed Searcy & Kevin Loughery. I can't recall if Kenny McIntyre was a JC or other college his first year, but if not JC, I'd add him. I don't recall anyone else who put their kind of stats up at SJU as a non JC transfer since the 1960s. Matt Brust was a notch below these guys.

There was a transfer from Connecticut I think. Small forward type. Had to be 30 years ago. I remember him getting the ball with St. John's up a bucket with 3 seconds left, and running off the court like a fullback with the ball tucked under his arm the whole time. The other team got the ball with 2 seconds left, but fortunately they missed. Can someone help out?

The game Ray Morgan refers to , I believe was SJU vs Pitt at CA. SJU up a basket I think , force Pitt to take a bad shot with eight to ten seconds to go. The shot falls way short and John Hempel catches it about the foul line. He proceeds to cradle the ball in one arm and trots out of bounds taking about six steps
The refs call traveling giving Pitt another shot with a few seconds They missed a heave and Looie survived a near heart attack along with Hempel. It is all fuzzy to me but I think it was in the mid eighties.

I think we should separate transfers that are coming home to nyc area from transfers from.elsewhere.

Rencher and Carter gave us our version of the Rolls Royce backcourt.

Searcy was on the front line with Beaver Smith and cecil rellford (transfer?) That was the first sju team i fell in love with as an alternative to the Knicks

Rellford was a transfer from Kentucky St. but played after Searcy graduated.

Hempel transferred from UMASS and the way he played in the Dallas Comegys DePaul debacle NCAA Tourney game made me think he was sabotaging us for the lack of playing time he received that season. Took me over two weeks to come close to getting past that loss.

Plus another instance of our playing a "Neutral Court" NCAA Tournament game on our opponents home floor. Also played lower seeded Purdue in West Lafayette in 1980.
