So far the season has been an emotional roller coaster for us fans, but the Alibegovic thing is driving me crazy!!! I like the kids motor and enthusiasm, but somebody needs to teach this kid how to play as a 4 or 5. He is the biggest (weight/height) kid we have and i envision him as a banger. Am I the only one because he drives me crazy when he is setting up on the perimeter and launching threes. We have plenty of kids to shoot, we need him eating quality mins underneath for us. Working on him in the paint should be a priority in practice for us. I actually think he is skilled enough to play as a big. Thoughts ?

Coaching!

Don't think he has the goods or inclination to bang on interior. Nice kid with no future here or much of a positive this season. He really should have joined his close friend at Marist. That said, there he would still be hoisting 3s & taking that "Euro" step move from half court into traffic. Sorry, but he thinks he is a wing.

It's no use crying over spilled milk. and Don't cry over spilled milk.
Prov. Do not be upset about making a mistake, since you cannot change that now. -See Jones, Christian

I posted the same thing previously. But I think it was Redmennorth who responded correctly ,hes not going to change .He ll keep hoisting up the 3 pointers. I'm not convinced hes that skilled as a big, but that is certainly where we need him w his size and the disappointing play of our other bigs.

He has no interior game and I dont think its going to happen either. Not worth trying to reinvent the wheel on this one, lets accept him for what he is and his 5 fouls in 7 mins.

I think it is the untimely bad shots that bother most. If we were decent he would annoy me but as it is he amuses me.

It appears that the Christian Jones legend is growing by the day. All for a player that scored 8 points a game on a team with less talent than this year's version. My memory is good enough to recall a player that would make one good play on offense, and then turn the ball over the next 2 times he touched it. The team went 1-18 in conference last year with CJ getting 25 minutes a game. Guess he didn't help them all that much. CJ is like Richard Todd's backup. Had to be an improvement, because Todd stunk. Thar's the thinking for a lot of posters. I say let the guy be. Even if he added a win or 2, the team would not likely be in a post season tournament. I don't like Ali's game one bit, but never thought CJ was a difference maker like many seem to believe. If he was still playing here, he would be getting slammed on this board for his having no BB IQ despite being a 5th year player.

A couple of games ago a big strong center is having his way down low with both Sima and Owens and I am not suprised to see Ali enter the game. It is SJU ball so he runs full speed to his spot two feet beyond the 3 pt line.
When the ball changes hands he picks up a forward 15 ft from the basket who he has no chance of defending leaving Owens to defend the opposing center down low who he has no chance of defending. Ali is the only SJU big with upper body strength and it just seems he is always in the wrong place. This appears to be bad coaching.

The thing that puzzles me w Amar is he's not that good from 3 pt. range. Why can't he just take a higher percentage 2 pt. shot?

For the same reason that Kit Keller swung at the high ones despite usually striking out. She liked the high ones. Just like Kit got a steady diet of high fastballs, Amar constantly finds himself wide open from beyond the arc. He just can't believe his luck. The same shot he probably can ht 80% of the time when is alone on the court. That's what makes him Amar and not a higher quality player.

He had a shot at playing meaningful minutes this year. Our bigs have been awful. He had to adopt the mindset that every shot the opponent puts up is going to miss and when it comes off the rim that ball is mine! He could have done that The fact that he hasn't done that speaks volumes.

Amar has not improved since Steve Lavin and these coaches use him as an outside shooting forward. Has any player developed an inside game with these coaches?? If anything, the inside game is an afterthought. Perhaps with real bangers the coaches and players will feel more confident sending the ball into paint. Right now it our version of the black hole.

Yeah, Christian Jones is why they won one game last year. Good thinking.

This team needs a grown ass body and good hands who can score inside and rebound. Jones is exactly that player. If he was asked to leave it's Mullin's biggest mistake to date, because with him the front court would be mediocre. As opposed to awful, which is what it is now.

If CJ is the missing piece, then next year will be a breeze. Forget worrying if Zach Brown qualifies or Marvin Clark shakes off the rust and improves on his 4 ppg career average. The staff just needs to find a 5th year senior who averaged 8 points, 5 boards and 2 turnovers in his "breakout" senior year. I'm not buying it. Apparently, neither was Mullin.
