Just wondering, other than personnel changes during the game, did Pitino change the defense at all during the game?

It looked like we were in a matchup zone on the first Bama possession. Then it became a dumpster fire of getting broken down by their guards and our bigs not rotating over to stop the driver.
Maybe Zach can ask CRP if I really saw the matchup zone.
Maybe that will be our secret weapon against the SEC. Bring in Boeheim to teach it. Our guards (besides Dylan) have length.

I have a question lawmanfan. I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment of Lefty's foot speed but do you think if we play some zone defense it would create more playing time for Lefty. Just wondering.

If you were going play zone then that would involve a different skill set and Liotopoulos might be a fit with some length up top. But we don't really have the back line personnel to make that work and Pitino doesn't want to play it anyway. He wants to press, trap and play a switching man defense and that's what he's recruited for.

I don't disagree that there are spots where it might be nice to work in some zone at least for a change of pace. But he has a clear vision of what he wants and that isn't it.

Yes went to new stouts before the game. We got there early. Apps were excellent

Speaking of praying, I sat directly accross the isle from Fr. Rock(I'm 99% certain) on LIRR heading home, but didn't realize it was him(I was too busy watching porn on my phone) until he stood up to get off at Jamaica station. Would have thought he'd be he'd traveling with the team, but what do I know.

They moved to 35th Street, between 7th and 8th. You could still smell the new wood consturction smell. It was packed for a noon game, I can only imagine what it will be like for afternoon/evening games.

No, we couldn’t stop Alabama. But look at Alabama’s schedule last year. Look at their wins. This is what they do when they win. They score a ton. They are in the upper echelon of teams in the country in that regard.

But I thought Jackson and Sellers both hit some nice shots down the stretch when the game was going back and forth before the last 5 minutes. Ian in particular had some impressive drives and finishes. He is small though.

Overall I thought they rose to the occasion offensively in the second half in a way that I didn’t know they had in them cause I hadn’t seen it yet. I was encouraged. Defensively we are definitely a big time work in progress…. For our next stretch of big games hopefully we have our attack dog darling to help set the tone

Ayo had the best -+ numbers of any SJU player yesterday. Just saying.

With kids like Sanon, Jackson and Sellers, you really hope they look at an Ayo or Zuby, see where those kids have gotten to under Rick from what they were, and embrace everything about the Rick/staff experience.

Agree on Ian and Sanon. Sellers imho has already bought in to trying to do whatever Pitino asks and hustles his butt off. Clearly a bit miscast as point guard but he will give it his best shot.
