Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

We have made assumptions about this year’s team based on last year’s team: that we are a dominant second half team, that we are the second best defensive team in the nation, for example.
This is clearly a different team, with different personnel, and different strengths and weaknesses.
We don’t yet know what this team will be, but we have a very strong front court and some talented guards who are still searching for their roles on the team.
It’s way too early to have an idea of where this team will be in March. Probably too early to know what we’ll look like in December. Let’s see how things go in Vegas, deal with the results, and take it from there.
Yesterday was a disappointing loss, but a great game for November8, and a pretty high floor for this team to start building from. The Garden was insane and it’s early November.

That James Harden-like step back three-pointer is a travel. I sincerely hope college basketball doesn't go the way of the NBA in that respect. Holloway clearly takes three steps back.

Call me a cranky traditionalist, but I hate it.

My opinion, It’s a gather into a jump stop, so it could be allowed if both feet came down at the same time. Thing is they never do so it really is a gather into two backward steps. But the game now is called in a way that assumes both feet of come down at the same time.

Our bigs did the same thing many times, just moving towards the basket. I thought we were going to get called for travels on 3 or 4 occasions that it wasn’t called. I had a problem with the jump stop about 20 years ago but I think I’ve made my peace with it.

Tough loss but a great game, we didn't turn them over or rebound great yesterday. Considering its basically its an entirely a new roster. Im very optimistic we will be a legit top 10 team all year! Im attaching a picture of me and my 2 boys from yesterday that's what is most important! Go Johnnie's!

A day later, this loss stings. This was the type of game that could help put us in the upper echelon of CBB because the best teams are expected to win this type of hyped game. The loss will be less painful and impactful this season if (a) Bama has a really, really good season, so it is less awful to lose to a really good team, and, to a lesser extent, (b) we beat all or at least 4 of Baylor, Iowa State, Kentucky, Ole Miss and the final team in Vegas.

I agree with you. You don't "step-back" 6 feet without a dribble without traveling.

Another one I hate is when the shooter jumps 2 feet horizontally to create contact with the defender to draw a foul. It especially bothers me when the defender is already in the air. I believe the rule should be that you own a vacant landing spot once you go airborne. Anyone who moves into that spot after you are airborne is undercutting you.

I'll start with a positive. I have been going to almost every home game for the past 25 years. When SJU was making a run halfway through the 2nd half, it was the loudest I have heard the Garden in quite some time. Otherwise....
Kudos to the Bama coach at that critical, potential game turning juncture.
We had cut the lead to 2 and the house was rocking. I thought he should have called
timeout still up 4 and was positive he'd take it up 2. He knows his team better than I
and let them play through. The Tide immediately made a traditional 3 pt. play and order
was restored to their winning side.

Just wondering, other than personnel changes during the game, did Pitino change the defense at all during the game?
