AIC Exhibition

Back from game. Difficult to take anything from game against this level of competition.

Most of what has already been stated over the past few months held true.

Simon is a very good athlete but has poor shooting form and seemed to shy away from taking outside shots. Hope staff is working on form. Like him.
Lack of size and depth will be a problem on some nights.
Clarke is a strong player and if he was 2 inches taller probably doesn't leave Mich State. Also, as has been stated, leans more to perimeter than inside. Didn't miss but a few jumpers in warmups but missed all of his outside shots during game. That said, he is a serious player and will be an asset.
Owens looks improved and was victim of some BS calls. He seemed conscious of foul trouble and applied token resistance once he had 3 fouls.
Team seemed to be committed to defense. But we will see against better comp.

Bunch of talented scorers.

Trimble is a bit of a pudge. Obviously very early, but would be surprised if he contributes this year.

First shot drains deep three like nothing. He'll play. They need the size and still seeing our guards getting beat - by div II guys.

Truck Bryant.

I was about to ask if you were at the game when I read your wise ass response to my post. But then I stumbled across your post comparing Trimble to Truck Bryant, and I and realized that you must be in front of your computer composing one of your painful attempts at witty post-game commentary.

So you were about to ask if I was at the game but then stumbled across my response and realized I wasn't at the game and instead was in front of my computer composing a painful attempt at wit. Goddamn but that's a profoundly stupid response. If I could figure out where the like button was in this dopey new format I'd have liked your response. As it is you'll have to take my word.

You’re light years ahead of me. It took me twenty minutes to figure out how to post something today. And if I’m being honest, I enjoy most of your summaries and secretly (well not so much any more) wish I were that witty!

FIVE TO LIKE:
32 point win...even against a Division II team is nothing to sneeze at. Not everyone wins these games.
Solid defense kept AIC's score way down.
5 players in double figures.
Free throw shooting was lights out.
We have a rebounder.

FIVE NOT TO LIKE:
Eked out rebounding margin against smaller team.
Foul trouble could kill us. Amir and Bashir fouling out after playing fewer than 20 minutes? Owens with four in 20?
Putrid 3 point shooting in second half. I hope they weren't tired.
Unforced turnovers.
No Yakwe. I'm always nervous about injuries...even if he comes back right away. This team isn't deep enough to overcome injuries.

Hey Newsman ..... welcome back, your insights are appreciated. Don’t be a stranger.

The good about last night:
We shared the ball.
Bashir played under control.
Clark's a demon.
Simon is the most athletic guy on the team.
Amar hit the boards.
Trimble looks like he can give us 8-10 minutes a game.
Nobody got hurt.

The bad about last night

Their guards blew by our defense, shades of last year.
We need somebody else to board besides Clark and Ponds.
We have no inside presence on the offensive end. A couple of times Owens got inside position, the guards looked right at him and passed the ball to the outside.
We need to cut down on fouls, AIC is a Div. 2 school and we still picked up way too many fouls, mostly because their guards penetrated and our inside guys were late to rotate or forced to leave their man, shades of last year.

Another positive note, Chris stood in front of the scorers table for much of the 2nd half, but did not sit down so Maher's BP didn't spike.:)

We can use multiple lineups. Nice first game. Like Section 9 said. I'm a little worried about rebounding. Other players need to contribute. Clark is going to help a lot in that dept. Players are more mature plus the addition of Simon and Clark far outweigh our departures.

Trimble is a bit of a pudge. Obviously very early, but would be surprised if he contributes this year.

I like pudgy guards. John Bagley, Pearl Washington, Mark Jackson. Trimble going to be my favorite player

i wasn't there, whats the take on Amar? is he still camped out on the perimeter ? Yakwe wasn't playing, he adds more fouls and rebounds for us. I think we will survive underneath but an aggressive defense that causes turnovers comes with fouls- thats the price you pay. We should be deep enough to ramp up D.

Amar continues to be the most talked about 10th man in team history. I wonder if these forums existed in 1985 or 86 if Terry Bross would have had so much discussion?

In the few photos I saw , as I was not at the game , I saw him banging underneath and boxing out , which is exactly what we need him to do. I hope that continues. Simon and Clark have shown they can score amongst other attributes. Which together with Ponds, Lovett and Ahmed gives us 5 players who can and should be double digit scorers each game. AA is needed to board and defend inside. I hope he does the best he can in that role.

DID NOT SEE THE GAME but we are playing better and was real close to winning. Lets remember it was an away game at a place which is tough to win at. I AM SATISFIED that we have improved No one that saw the game mentioned how our our coach coached the game? Could he have done anything that could have made up the few pts we lost by. How was our foul shooting and field goal percentage and how did we do on the glass to a bigger team

Rutgers was 2-7 at home in conference last year.

PS looking at their schedule on ESPN it just looks weird that their last regular season game is Feb 25. Do you think the extra week without games is going to help or hurt the B1G participants in the dance, not Rutgers of course.
