AIC Exhibition

Has the best defensive positioning of the guards. Also Clark and Simon can’t get 3 fouls in the first half.

First game jitters and getting back into the rhythm of playing is probably the reason for that

I think it was Simon and Bashir with 3 fouls. Owens also got a couple of cheapies. Amar with one bad foul but liked his hustle overall.

49-32 at the half. Ponds 13, Lovett 10, Ahmed 9, Clark 8 rebounds.

Trimble is a bit of a pudge. Obviously very early, but would be surprised if he contributes this year.

First shot drains deep three like nothing. He'll play. They need the size and still seeing our guards getting beat - by div II guys.

Truck Bryant.

I was about to ask if you were at the game when I read your wise ass response to my post. But then I stumbled across your post comparing Trimble to Truck Bryant, and I and realized that you must be in front of your computer composing one of your painful attempts at witty post-game commentary.

So you were about to ask if I was at the game but then stumbled across my response and realized I wasn't at the game and instead was in front of my computer composing a painful attempt at wit. Goddamn but that's a profoundly stupid response. If I could figure out where the like button was in this dopey new format I'd have liked your response. As it is you'll have to take my word.

Marvin Clark resembles Omar cook. Marvin Clark also resembles a brick house.

Some have said that Trimble is a bit of a pudge. Maybe, but he knocked down two threes, one from the baseline, and another from deep. And he has a quick release. I like him.

sure there were some repeat mistakes, and not getting excited by beating a D2 school by 30+, but overall, as good as we could have asked for

more bright spots than not. I'll take it.

More important then that, he seems to be able to get up and down the court just fine. Yes, he's a bit pudgy, but he wasn't sucking wind after 10 seconds of play (or at any point, to be honest).

He also seemed to be out second best board banger (after Clark), so his pudginess may be a bit of an asset.

Thanks for posting the box score!
It shows what I suspected during the game.  We gave up 35 rebounds to likely the smallest team we will face this season.  Not a good sign even though we beat AIC easily. With Yakwe unable to play we are not deep up front when players like Bashir and Owens commit foolish fouls and foul out against D2 competition.
Players that impressed were Ponds, Lovett and Simon.  Ahmed did not have a very cerebral game fouling out and showing little progress from his NBA tutorial over the summer.
The team as a whole played very lackadaisical but I gather that the level of competition had a lot to do with that. The guards were beaten a few times on defense and we have no one who can be described as a back in player who can over power an Omari Spellman.  I fear our lack of interior defense will cause a few unexpected losses.
To get students to attend games it appears that we will need rumors of a surprise appearance by a rap artist.  Forget the box score attendance as most people stayed away preferring not to miss game 7 of the World Series.
Hoping for a better outing by Bashir and Owens and the return of Yakwe for the Rutgers game because they will have better size and a legit coach Saturday.  We'll see how well Mullin motivates those that had lapses tonight.
Excited that the season has finally begun!
