Adios Jarvis

I hated Jarvis for what he did to our school as much as anyone. Heck you could probably say that my hate for Jarvis was only rivaled by Newsman's love of Jarvis over the years. :)

But I'm over my anger. Most of it went away after Lavin's 1st year when we finally exorcised the deamons of crappiness under the Norm years which were caused by the Jarvis ending.

Ironically I know someone who had business dealings with Jarvis and said he was a super nice guy and his secretary raves about him to this day saying he was one of the nicest people ever to her.

No doubt as a coach what he did to our program is reprehensible but maybe I'm just getting old. But I'm over him so best of luck to him in the future as long as it has nothing to do with our school

Unfortunately, our national unemployment total will increase by one indefinitely
I can't think of anyone who would ever employ The Deuce

Will his book be about stealing millions of dollars from numerous universities after they hired him to coach basketball and he spent all his time at the race track?

May do one on how to screw up in home visits and alienate families, with Forward done by Jason Frasier.

What in the world is Jarvis thinking of with involving Bernie Fine in his program, sounds wacky to me???

Fine’s own best friend Jim Boeheim stayed away from him.

I thought Boeheim didn’t care for Jarvis, this is very strange.

MJ going soft...he'll be talking that way about Bush soon enough.

NEVER !! :)

If you read Jarvis' quotes, they have the exact same tone as things he was quoted as saying in the weeks before he was fired at SJU.

When his teams are losing, Jarvis doesn't like to address failure, and instead outwards displays contentment and bristles at questions that imply that winning is a goal. If you remember, Jarvis famously stated something along the lines of "I am not concerned about losing. I'm a teacher." when we got off badly in his final abbreviated season.

What fans and employers want to hear is how the team can turn it around, what must be corrected going forward, They want to hear passion from their coach about a desire to win, and his own disdain for losing. Jarvis tends to do the opposite, to express contentment while losing, and that just rankles everyone.

There is no substitute for winning, and while bad winners are tolerated, bad losers are not.

So now we know the code words needed to get GoldenLeaf to post again:

1. Georgetown
2. Jarvis
3. US Congress

Anything else? ;)

I came across this article from when we axed him. Interesting that it seems like Father Harrington was pushing for the Mid-season pink slip.

Let me preface this link by saying that I do truly give him credit for agreeing to finish out the year. It's the right thing to do, IMO. That said, more doozies in this article:

Those things will need time to develop, so Jarvis' first priority is helping his assistants find jobs, specifically his son, Mike Jarvis II.

"That's my first priority, to make sure Mike is being taken care of, then my other long-time assistant, Tim Kaine," Jarvis said. "Those are the two guys that I have to do everything in my power to make sure that they're coaching next year. Those guys have been trustworthy, those guys have shown great class. That's my main issue right now — to take care of them."

Everything is very fuzzy to me now. When did the prostitution scandal in Pittsburgh happen? After Jarvis was fired? When did Norm Roberts get hired? The year after?

Jarvis was fired 6 games into the 0304 season with a 2-4 record including losses to Hofstra and Fairfield around December 7 2003

Kevin Clarke took over

Feb 4 2004 was the night of the Pittsburgh incident after a loss to Pitt that put the record at 5-13.

Somehow the kids that were left beat Georgetown on Feb 18 but ended the season 6-21.

Norm was hired on April 14, 2004

So where we are are today is a lot better than 10 years ago.
