AD Chris Monasch OUT from SJU?

A new AD is just going to be a puppet if he/she doesn't have the power to make a change with the basketball program. I certainly wouldn't want the job if it meant there were untouchables, and I imagine a long extension makes Lavin untouchable for a couple years.

From what I understand Lavin does not take his marching orders from AD.

So who controlls him, the president? Please tell me that he doesn't run wild.

Maybe that's the delay. Lavin is negotiating his new contract with himself. Both sides are overly loquacious.

You just blew my mind.

Well if Monasch is really out, there would be a press conference ASAP. More importantly though, he would be totally uninvolved with Lavin discussions and negotiations, which would indicate that no one with the professional experience to consider all alternatives beyond the experience of being a fan is involved. Even Bobby G. would have no experience whatsoever in this regard. Sad state of affairs if true.

Sad as it may be, I would trust the presidents basketball decision making over Monasch any day of the week. He should have been fired years ago. A dynamic AD is neded to keep the high profile coach in check.

Bobby was involved in the hires of AD's and coaches at Miami of Ohio when he was Provost.

Negotiating and structuring a coaching contract is something an intelligent University President should be able to handle. It's not brain surgery!

As mentioned above, I would rather have him doing it than the current AD.

Dealing with slick Lavin could be tough for a new President. Experience with coaches at Miami(Ohio) does not compare.

I agree with the premise that SJU is capable of negotiating an extension.

Negotiating a contract is one thing. Making the decision as to whether or not he should be replaced , and initiating a search and hiring the right person is another. I hope the lack of these skills aren't factoring into a decision to retain him.

Thanks for that information, Moose. I meant the ability to determine who would be a suitable coach to replace Lavin or how to organize that process. I'd be very uncomfortable with board members organizing that search process.

I just called the school spoke with a source. They stated Chris Monasch is the AD, seemed annoyed that I called and asked the question about his job status but was very adamant that Chris is still AD.

Let me put this in a little perspective, a couple of years ago I called the school and asked about the job status of Rob Wile (when the NY magazine expose was around) the source on the phone was very defensive I can't comment you will need to speak with the Universities lawyers etc.

Speaking of which, can one of the moderators please insert a question mark after the title of this thread? It's definitely a question, and not a statement of fact.

Done.

One would think if the rumor about Chris Monasch was true, it would be all over the news by now.

Anyone else jump the gun and run and tell your friends that they finally got him the F out of the building? Yeah, I'm that jack@ss

Keegan Bradley story on Golf Magazine and Youtube !!

via @YouTube

Why would they fire the golf coach if he won the Big East championship in 2014.

For such a low profile sport, the criteria for the coach to keep his job should be: 1. Keep the support of Keegan and 2. Don't embarrass the university. What a foolish move by Monash. Keegan was arguably the best ambassador of the university. He brought us tremendous press.
