I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been hoping for Coach Rice to get another chance, because we all mess up in life, and our values are best demonstrated when we allow people the opportunity to demonstrate that they’ve learned from their mistakes. Selfishly I think he has talent, both on the bench and on the recruiting trail. I hope he joins us and does so soon. This is our time, let’s get it!

IMO Rice is the right hire whether or not he brings any recruits with him. If we get ANY of those major targets it will be huge, but I'm expecting none and hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised. He adds experience at a high level, NJ recruiting, energy, etc. He's plug and go, he knows the deal from day 1. That's very valuable.

I'd imagine this comes with a salary reduction. Perhaps to clear space to add another assistant, but to have him observe practices and work with some guys one on one.

I know its summer but a lot of angst over a guy no one has hired in 5 years. I am not against or for. I could care less. Seems like daily updates on Heron would be more useful. At least to me. Can you get on that one Paultz?
 
I don't think other teams have stayed away from him due to a lack of talent/experience. They likely stayed away due to possible negative press about what happened in his past. If it weren't for that, I have a hard time believing he wouldn't at least be the head coach of a solid mid major program if not better.

There won't be daily updates on Heron because we won't get an answer until right before the season starts. That's how the NCAA works.

Agree. Right now they are focusing on sports that start in August and September and their vacation time. So the only daily updates on Heron you are likely to get is the often repeated “Any news on when we might get a decision on Heron’s waiver request?” or “I don’t understand why there is no decision yet.”

I would say we trial him and D'Angelo Harrison, and on Day 1 ask him to fire a ball at Dlo's head.

1) If he does, and D'Angelo goes after him, don't hire him because he's too stupid and there won't be many pieces left of him

2) If he does, and D'Angelo restrains himself, hire D'Angelo instead.

3) If he refuses to do it and D'Angelo laughs at it, hire them both
 
Having taught high school for 44 years many of those years as a dean in the NYC Public school system I have dealt with many high school students who have gone off the hook and had to be straightened out . I myself while teaching in a middle school in Bushwick went off the hook because of student actions . I think all of us have had days when we did things that we later were ashamed of .. A person should not be ostracised for one action because we all learn from our mistakes .
