A List of Things That Have Happened to this Program in the Last 10 Years

Your point 4 about Matt being the reason Slice is gone could not possibly be further from the truth if you tried. Matt was never the head coach and Slice departure had 100% to do with Slice and Mullin. Matt should be left out of that fiasco.

For those I'm unpopular with, even you must admit this is the perfect Zaun fit for a thread lol...I really think Keith Thomas would've helped us a ton...that one still hurts. And the Whitehead fiasco was the turning point for Seton Hall. Right before that point, we were easily considered the better program. Since then, night and day.

19- That most telented big man just msde his debut in the pros.
20- At the start of this season, our starting PG needs season ending, major shoulder surgery. No one knew this???

Id say we had a guy in ponds last year who had the ability to be a marcus howard/myles powell type player, but like his coach, got lazy and he never reached that level.

North,

Refresh my memory if you don't mind. What was the argument between Mullin and Slice. Mullin feel threatened ?

Don't limit yourself to the last 10 years. If I'm not mistaken 1) Jeff Ruland wanted to come to St. John's and we chose Wayne McKoy (at the time it was a no-brainer, but from a luck standpoint ...) 2) No one met Olajuwon at the airport (nuff said). Wennington, Akeem and Berry up front (with CM and anyone else in the backcourt) would have yielded at least one NC.

Thinking back on it from a new perspective maybe it was Mullin that was supposed to pick Olajuwon up at the airport. ;) :)

That anyone else was Mark Jackson..

I don't know what was the most inexcusable but the one with the most devastating effect was the Mullin break with Slice. The effect on n recruiting is still being felt, it cost the school a small fortune and it was made even worse with Mullin's replacement choice. A total disaster.

If they had hired him when he was available, you wouldn't have had any reason to begin this thread in the first place. You could've started one that said.

Except that Wright was never a possibility for us. For the umpteenth time, let me set the record straight.

The only time we could have gotten Wright was in 1996, when we hired Fran. Given that his two year record at Hofstra was 19-36, I doubt he would have been an appealing choice at the time.

I guess we could have had him again in 98, when Fran was fired, but he was still 50-63, with no postseason bids, at that time. Not what we wanted. It was the next three years, where he really took off.

Wright was going to get the first offer from us in 2000, when we thought Jarvis was going to the Wizards, but he turned them down. At the time, no one was upset about that, myself included. By the time our job opened again, Wright was already 3 years into his Nova tenure.

He was never close to coming here, and to say we should have hired him in the 90s, is complete, 100% revisionist history.

No one is a relative term I guess.

Yes, but most of us were happy at the time.

Jarvis was 53-17 his first two years here, and had what many thought would be a powerhouse recruiting class coming in. Only after that, did things start to go downhill here, for him.

True. It was after the following year I wanted him gone. Saw that the Riverside team coached themselves.
