A List of Things That Have Happened to this Program in the Last 10 Years

In no particular order, all of these things have actually happened to this program in the last 10 years:

1. The most talented player to come through the program in a decade was convicted of attempted murder and severed several years in jail.

2. Our best team lost its only big man before the NCAA tournament after getting busted for weed.

3. The most storied player in program history returned as head coach, only to completely mail it in and get forced out after 4 years without a tourney win.

4. That same head coach's #1 assistant was forced out by an assistant coach in his 20's whose only job responsibility was to recruit.

5. We blew a 17 point second half lead at home on Saturday to a nearly equally as bad team missing their best player.

6. A former walk-on player become the subject of a nationwide manhunt after being alleged to be a serial killer.

7. Our mostly highly rated big man recruit was arrested for shop lifting and subsequently was revealed to be a cross-dresser.

8. Our most visible and successful alumnus went on WFAN and trashed the program and university leadership.

9. Our most talented big man was misused, forcing him to transfer out and ultimately reach his potential and help his team get to the NCAA finals as a grad transfer.

10. We surprisingly beat out UConn for a local recruit - only to have the recruit change his mind and go back to UConn before stepping foot on campus.

11. We conducted a head coach search that was so poorly run it became a national embarrassment for the program. We were turned down by a mid major coach as part of the search.

12. Our starting point guard mysteriously injured his foot and went into "day to day" status for 3 months before finally leaving the program to play overseas.

13. We received a commitment from a highly rated PF who decommitted from a Pac-10 school, only for that prospect to subsequently decommit and re-commit to the Pac 10 school (epilogue: he has transferred out after a year).

14. The former HC/best player in program history inexplicably hired his best buddy from the NBA to be an assistant coach. The AC sat around on his butt for 3 years and ultimately left with the head coach.

15. We flirted with a local AAU coach with a controversial past as a college HC for about a year before ultimately walking away.

16. Talented JUCO PG commit leaves program before getting to campus after 20 something AC who recruited him and with whom he had his only staff relationship departs to "coach" under his buddy.

17. We start a conference season 0-11.

18. We make commemorative T-shirts for winning two back to back regular season games.

What am I forgetting?

Reading this has made me realize that St. John's will never be a nationally relevant program again. The best we can hope for is to be at the level of a Butler or a Xavier, which I would love. Put a competitive team on the court every year and every so often make some noise in post season play.

That's a pretty long informative list and although I am no longer a season ticket holder there should be a mention of how the terribly loyal season ticket base has been treated. Top prices for such an inferior product.

How much does it cost you to go to a game at MSG? Tolls, gas, parking, train, price of one ticket, a beer and a hot dog?

Getting the wheels blown off at home against a D2 or D3 team STA.

Getting blown out by Fordham and then rubbing it in taking a last second 3 up 30 or so.

Suspending our own best player right as we were on bubble one year (D'Lo) although he did turn his attitude around, it cost us a bid

Losing DJ right before the tourney the year we were being discussed as a darkhorse Elite 8 team on ESPN

According to consensus, Whitehead commitment to SJ imminent until Seton Hall went the extra mile to hire his HS coach changing at the 11th hour.

Several top Lavin recruits ruled ineligible

Mullin sitting on scorers table and tying his shoes on national TV while a 20 something coaches the team.

Keith Thomas transcript being fraudulent and our seemingly 50 year wait for a real big continues...

God, this fanbase needs to come together and sage the entire campus. I don't know what our program has done to the college basketball gods, but this is more than enough torture for whatever it was.

Our former head coach gets hired immediately year one gets rid of the Norm Roberts stench on the court play brings us our best season since Jarvis plus immediately lands us our best recruiting class since I guess Jarvis or Fran then gets cancer

MSG stops selling Bronx Pale Ales and immediately attendance drops. Coincidence ?

Can't believe I forgot the "BE SHARP" Mic'd up segment. Glaring omission on my part, that was comedy gold.

Didnt we lose to some team called Reincarnated Word or something like that at Carnesseca ?

The bad losses have put me into a basketball induced coma where thankfully I cant remember all that anymore

10 years? Tough times around here have outnumbered good times for longer than that unfortunately. I remember when we lost to Coppin State coached by Fang Mitchell. Maybe that was the 90s. It’s all melting together like some sort of water torture.

Fang is a pretty bad ass name. That guy definitely wasn't getting picked on in grade school

Good call. Also remember the time that Femi kid came to visit and Chris was in California even though he would have been a perfect fit for us, so he went to Depaul and mauled us twice last year instead?

Femi could have really helped us
