30 for 30: Requiem For The Big East-Rivalry

Look at this tweet! I guess he didn't get the memo from the ESPN brass:

"The @BIGEAST is far from dead." - @DickieV

Say what you will about him, I don't think I've ever hear Dickie V say a negative word about anything or anybody.

It's almost like hes a Mormon. He loves everybody.

He doesnt speak highly of st johns and I personally feel he is prejudiced in favor of Duke and Notre Dame

"We carried the conference for awhile in football and we did a pretty good job in hoops too"

This guy must of missed the whole point of the documentary, football killed the Big East.

My experience with the WV fans was that they were mostly drunk whenever I saw them at MSG

My impression of them was that they were really fans of the WVU football team, who knew squat about basketball, and the Big East. The same was true for Notre Dame fans.

As much as I despised the Cuse and UCONN fans, they were true fans of their hoops team, if nothing else.

I didn't DVR the extra segments. What did they show? And are there any links to them?

I agree, Beast. (You're doing some of your best work this morning :) )
I also agree with that fan. If Cuse had stayed, the Big East would not have broken up. Uconn and Cinci had no better place to go, and Louisville would likely have stayed. ND didn't need to leave for football. We would have lost Rutgers (who cares?) and, maybe, Pitt (again, who cares?).

I disagree. If Cuse didnt go, UConn would have in a split second. The whole thing from the BE schools was based upon football and football money. But from the ACC perspective it was a perfect scenario to break up the BE which had surp;assed it in so many ways in basketball and on Tobacco Road, basketball is King

Where was Uconn going? The ACC rejected them. They are in the AAC, aka Big East leftovers, because no other conference wanted them.

ACC rejected Syracuse the first time and took Va. Tech (along with Miami) and later, BC. So why wouldn't they take UConn or Cincy if Cuse said no?

Academics.
