Agree but I think Pitino could have defined Lee’s role more as a distributor more than a scoring threat. I don’t think he would (or could) do that with Boogie who has more of a scorers mentality which with this group may be over kill?

Very valid point, there still will only be one ball to go around. But I will say this, I think the team needs a natural PG on the roster either way and god forbid Jackson gets hurt or bombs, this Darling kid gives me uncertainty as the guy who can orchestrate all this talent.

Please realize that Coach Cal knows the NBA draft game too. Cal advised Boogie (no kidding) to enter the draft.
Cal already recruited over Boogie. Boogie is in the portal in case he gets hurt in the evaluation process or there’s a medical red flag.
I truly think that a healthy undrafted Boogie to STJs is Fantasy Island.

Now that he's in the portal, it's not fantasy. Plain and simple.

We're talking about someone who's on ESPN's big board at #53. We aren't talking about someone who's ranked at #13. It's a huge difference.

The truth is, its way too premature to know what will happen. It will all be determined by the NBA combine, interviews and individual workout performances. It is clear he has work ahead of him. I wouldn't argue with anyone if they think he'll impress and a team will guarantee him a top 25 pick. Its certainly easy to imagine.

But what if those three things go fine or mediocre? We know he's not going to Arkansas, or else he wouldn't be in the portal. We know he can make more money in college for one year. And, if he raises his draft stock for a weaker draft next year, he knows he can make tens of millions of more guaranteed money over four years.

We won't know until 3-4 weeks from now, once we hear how player's draft stock has gone up or down.

CRP gave RJ the correct advice. He should listen.

Most European players don’t make $3 million a year. Plus there are issues with teams paying and the adjustment is not easy. If RJ is not going to get drafted he should stay in college, take $3 million and be the “man” on at a school that has the potential to make a deep run.

I think about some of these kids who make the NBA and end up being role players the rest of their careers. Of course the money is good and they’re playing at the highest level. But they’ll never again have the opportunity to be a star. If he stays in school, RJ could make $3 or even $4 million and be a star for one more year. That’s life altering money. Not an easy decision.

Being a lottery pick at 20 is still in an ideal age range. Development wise you could argue either way but the economics are certainly looking better to stay in school.

Its also worth noting that coming to St John’s you’re in NYC and that certainly helps in landing NIL deals with big brands. Doing this in college and winning here will establish relationships that’ll enable him to keep his branding and some of those deals likely through his transition into the NBA. If we win and the pub he will get could end up still paying off 10 years down the road. Could “The Boogie” be NoBull’s signature basketball sneaker for the next 15 years?

As the best profiler here with Dinkins you are correct but they’d go even more in because a lot is just a 1 year commitment. Winners win and when they have better shot they go all in

It's worked out pretty much the best way it could: The money is there. We aren't the same crap program he was turning his nose up at in the past. A lot of the desirable schools are probably set at PG by now. Of the ones that aren't, someone will panic and pay Haggerty beforehand.

Now we sit back and wait . . .
