2025 Portal

Since he will cost big $$$$, is there a limit on our NIL budget? Can't be all on Repole's dime, can it?

Repole is probably similar to Cohen and the Mets...there is probably a range they want to work within, but they will reevaluate after the roster starts taking shape. When you have a player like Zuby as a senior, then add what we've added, and you see a player like Boogie Fland available in the 11th hour...I'd think you have to go all in at that point. That might take away what you pay in subsequent years, but how many chances do you have to be a favorite to win the national championship?

Ironically, Glover would have been far better off NOT going to a high major as a freshman. Had he instead put up some numbers at a mid-major, he would be more in demand now and likely pocket a lot more money. It's a brand new world out there.
Likely to be a one year stay. Getting material minutes, puts up some numbers this year. Goes back next year to high major and gets paid. CBB in 2025 - good and bad but....

He is #57 today on espn. I like that... for us!

From an economic standpoint and not as a biased St John’s fan, if this kid is not a lock Top 20 pick and based on what we are all reading he is far from that, he should come back to college (to whatever team will pay his rate) for a guaranteed 3 mil check at minimum, fine tune your game, get stronger and then go to the draft and play in the league as a 20 year old as a Top 15 pick.

definitely. and hes still very young. can make a ton in college for another year so i dont see any need to risk the draft, unless he jumps way up in the combine

Don't forget, we have the Xaivian Lee money still there. That was probably upwards of 2.5 million.

Since SJU will be directly paying players this year, I would imagine the school will be spending a multiple of whatever Repole is spending.
Also, the importance of such early buzz cannot be understated now.

Normally I do not care about that, but being talked about as a top 10 team not only gets fans attention, but also corporations who will pay to be associated with the NYC college basketball team on a few ads/commercials.

Also having a good relationship with the Garden is important. With the advent of the mega conferences, the problem of having difficulties scheduling high profile non conference games is not unique to us. The teams in those conferences have it too in reverse. They have many conference games to play.

Having the Garden in their back pocket gives SJU an ace in the hole. Other schools will look long and hard to find ways to schedule a game against a ranked SJU at the Garden.

Yes because Mitchell’s money probably came from Sim’s money. Wonder what the back conversations are about the possibility of Boogie being available and their position on that. I am sure they have already laid the ground work if they want him, assuming he becomes an option.

Mitchell was budgeted prior to Sim or Vince leaving. So we definitely are -- yes, I know this is crazy -- probably underbudget right now. lol.

Knowing Pitino, he probably already knew Boogie was going to possibly be an option, has this money still available, and while they tried for Lee, they went “hard” after no other big time PGs it seems nor did you hear them attached to any of those other big time PGs

I admit I have no real knowledge of Boogie ‘s game , other than the time he played against us , coming off Cal ‘s bench

I wonder what the hesitation is , among NBA scouts is , since other Posters who know Boogie’s game , rave about him as near All World

To me , he looks small for a NBA guard , unless he’s the next Allen Iverson ?

There must be a Scout’s file on him that projects him as very late 1 st round or early 2nd.

Obviously , why wouldn’t Pitino look to bring him here for 1 more year , if the Stars align so .

In the words of the Sports Pope: let’s be honest. Many of us were in Providence. Did Mr. Fland distinguish himself at all? I humbly say NO.
The NBA drafts players based upon future projections. Boogie is not ready for the NBA right now. But he still will be drafted. Most likely the early second round. His value will only go down too, because he will get drafted on potential. I evaluate him as OVERRATED. Sorry.
RJ should NOT return to college if he has a smart agent. WHY? Is value will only go DOWN. CRP is correct in advising RJ to go all in for the NBA, despite RJ pooping the sheets in Providence. He probably will have to wait for the mid to late second round.
Please stop with the Boogie fantasies. Only Arkansas will overpay him.

Certainly agree about RJ but I think my thoughts on Fland, independent of him coming or not, getting drafted on his potential in the second round gives him no financial certainties while he knows if he comes back to college for another year, he is guaranteed a big fat check and can reassess again after that year. This will all be figured out anyway in the next month anyway depending on if he withdraws or not.

Think of it this way though. That was his second game in two months. Risking further injury on his thumb in order to play for a team that he thought would be one-and-done. Pretty impressive character and grit for that, right?

Prior to his thumb injury on January 11th, in 15 games, he averaged: 15.5/6 assists/4 rebounds/1.7 steals, only 1.7 turnovers/1.5 fouls.
41% FG/36% 3PT/81% FT. They were also 11-4. He tried to play through injury, and they shut it down after two games. His numbers definitely took a little bit of a dip against better competition.

We're extremely lucky this is even a remote possibility. Its basically because the thumb injury derailed his season. But any type of second year jump with us, especially given his ball handling/passing prowess, would make us national title favorites and the number one preseason team.

And unlike RJ, he's only 18. He can still be very young, clean up some parts of his game, and be a top 10 pick.

Then, based upon your very detailed analysis, he will be drafted. NBA evaluators know about his thumb.
CRP is not waiting with a bag for Boogie. We will be better off with Dylan Darling. Tyson Chicken will be paying Boogie, not Mike R.
Most likely he will be drafted, play in the G League and be a bust.
Boogie should look to the NBA now, and get his NBA money now.
Ian is our starting PG, and we are blessed and fortunate. He will be GREAT.
