2025 Portal

This is the guy King Rice warned teams about tampering with early this season. Could be a portal candidate looking for a bigger program, conference and pay day. Definitely would want to kick the tires on and check under the hood. I would expect if he does portal, Creighton would try to bring him back home. I saw him play on ESPN and was impressed.

Ask Alpha Bangura for a reference.

I know this won't be the most popular take here... But... if we end up losing more than we think... and only keep 4-5 guys... I wouldn't mind if we got Camden and Pasha from Delaware... as 7-9 guys off the bench...

Camden can stroke it and should come in with a high IQ given his experience (something tells me he might be looking for a final year Pay day)

And Pasha had originally committed to Rick at Iona... he shows promise as a freshman and can see him developing nicely under Rick for his junior and season seasons... (also, he can remind those with Posh nostalgia lol)

I was literally about to post about Pasha. He apparently also has a 6'9" wingspan.

But, then I read this article. Idk if he considers us. lol

"St. John’s wanted me to go to St. Thomas More, and coach Pitino and coach Ricky Johns suggested it. Then they never spoke to me again. Honestly, it’s good, because I saw them play and their style did not fit me. It’s okay. I have moved on. Delaware is a better fit for me. My mom, Melinda (Laureano), told me to go with my gut. There were a lot of college coaches that lied to me. This is a happy ending. I’m only looking at the future. You can’t wait today with the transfer portal.”

I'm recklessly speculating here but Moe Odum from Pepperdine was insane during the WCC conference games, shooting 14-29 from 3pt. He's from the Bronx and went to HS in NJ. Evan Miya has him with the third best playmaking score in the country. He also seems to have a great attitude. Team was losing by 20+ with 3 minutes left and he was standing from the bench clapping/cheering them on.

I looked him up on youtube to post a highlight reel, and found he was also teammates with Ayo in IS8. He was also at Pacific before Pepperdine, the same school where Jenkins was prior to Iona.

I'm not saying this guy should be headlining any portal class of ours. But I see him in a similar way as Durugordon.

Portaling apparently

Hard pass on the Delaware guys.

Odum is somewhat intriguing, but he’s played for 3 bad teams. 2 were horrific.

Would like to aim higher. If we are going below us in level of play, it has to be a complete stud.

I see Odum as a purely off the bench option. If Deivon isn't returning, we need to get a legit starter.

I am curious how the staff is going to fill out the 15 roster spots (or even if they do). I do think some end of bench Euro projects could do it, but I also wonder if it'll be with high character guys from smaller programs, who can play in a pinch. You can tell he's aggravated by the injuries and playing Ricky Johns in practice.

I hope they pick up one or two projects either from JUCO or Europe if they choose to use up all 15 spots

I suspect we already have verbals and have probably had them for months, but always run the risk of kids and/or their camps backing out.

But I guess that's better than having written contracts and being popped for tampering (assuming that even exists these days).
We’ll hit the ground running, pre NIL great recruiters did their “homework” prior to opening dates. I suspect that will not change. Agents do their jobs early too imo.

If anything Pitino shows to this new crop of kids what he can do for their game if you put the work in. With Repole's help Matt can close guys extremely well. We have the players that are will fit our hard-nosed style, some are going to be totally under the radar kids.

We are....

I got no inside info on Gwath but this article came out yesterday. I actually think him rising draft boards wouldn't shock me. But, him giving no assurances to returning makes me think..... He would be a massive get.

“Magoon is everything we hoped he would be, and now we have to keep him on that path.”

Will that path run through Montezuma Mesa next season?
“Right now, I’m looking more towards trying to get to the pros,” Gwath said in his first media availability since injuring the knee Feb. 22 at Utah State.

Asked if he considers himself ready for the NBA or needs another year of development in college, he said: “I guess we’ll have to find out.”

Teammate Miles Byrd, who made second team all-conference as well as the all-defensive team, has also said he’ll test the draft waters this spring but will play at SDSU next season – and not enter the transfer portal – should he return to college.

Gwath offered no such pledge Tuesday. His priority of first receiving NBA feedback, then, likely will push a decision about any college future into April or May."
