2025 Portal

Maybe an RJ understudy? From Miami where I’m sure they’ll be lots of competition.

His #s against high level competition, absent of South Carolina game, is excellent.

You also made me curious, and RJ Luis went to Columbus HS which is the same HS where the U is poaching their coach from. I am sure we're going to be fine but now I will not rest easy. lol.

The timing of the portal in basketball should be pushed back until the day after the title game is completed.

The situation in College Football is different. Those players needed to put their names in the portal prior to Bowls and the playoffs immediately after the regular season ended in order to pick a new a school and ensure they would be able to enroll in January so they could participate in Spring practice. College Basketball is not up against such a short time frame.

Brutal shooting #s at an exceptionally low level for a 6-26 team. I do think there can be good talent found at low-majors, but I'd be very wary of getting a player from this bad of a team at this low of a level.

IMO, guys that are up-transferring like this are a major dice roll and not one most teams can afford to get wrong. I think we're in the position where we don't need to take chances like this. These are the type of guys high major teams with less NIL than their conference-mates should target and hope they just pop off. Anecdotally, feels like guys making this big of a jump end up failing more often than not

Like Seton Hall

Brutal?
- 62 % from 2
- 26% from 3 on less than 2 attempts. Dont think that’s a death sentence for a freshmen.
- 3 games sample size vs ACC he is 23-34 from the field.
- rebounds well
- 2.2 steals and doesn’t turn it over a crazy amount for the usage he has.

I have not watched any tape and just sharing what I see in terms of who enters portal.

Yes but gonna be less and less sure things with the exit of Covid 5th years and Pitino has been clear in wanting continuity.

57.2 % from the FT line
24.4% from 3 at the lowest level

2.2 steals is impressive but I'd rather take a look at transfers from major schools or A-10/ConfUSA/Mountain West caliber.

Yep this is a good point. We’ll have to see the quantity and quality of the portal this year before seeing which (if any) dice rolls are required. Hopefully SJU79’s belief is right and we won’t have to worry about players like this. But we got rug pulled a couple times last portal season and reported NIL investments for teams this year are absurd

Thinking more about it, what Sju79 said has merit.

With all of the publicity, the Vice doc, Fallon, and Pitino’s infectious personality, it is not crazy to think SJU is a destination location. Now, if SJU is anywhere near a number, that player will come here. Agents obviously notice the extra exposure the current players are receiving.

Matt is apparently confident.

Pitino's personality and track record, plus the "proof of concept" of winning big with sellout crowds in MSG, should get us plenty of guys. I don't think every player is making a "highest bidder" decision in the portal. Sim, himself, alluded to this on the Vice episode. Zach's article said how Scott was offered a lot more money by Arizona State. I also get a sense staff will not want to go after money-driven guys. This is like pro teams doing scouting for the draft -- you really need to understand the player and their priorities just as much as their skill.

People should give the players and the people around them more benefit of the doubt in making medium/long-term decisions.
