In the pre-NIL days, Matt’s recruiting strength was always the transfer market. He always knew how to play that game.

Now he gets to combine NIL, a HOF coach, with his salesmanship and the results are extraordinary (yeah, duh).

What's crazy too is last year while we did have the #1 overall transfer (Richmond), we did not have the #1 overall transfer class (at least on 247 we were #4). #1? Arkansas.

Just keeps getting better and better for the Johnnies.

BTW here is a great discussion between Norlander and Parrish on the Portal. They both think SJU is going to be great, Norlander has some reservations about all the transfers but thinks it's Pitino and he will figure out with all the talent. Parrish is like, "I ain't betting against Pitino." He has SJU at pre-season number 2. Norlander says you have to put them in the top 5.

The funny stuff is when they talked about PJ Haggerty and the $4 mil number. Norlander tells the story of a coach who read his article about how many teams are in the $8-$10 mil range, this coach then called him to tell him his heart nearly sunk when he began to list the schools who had that money. Because he was afraid his school was ON the list. Why? Because he said if his school was on the list he would have 5-6 kids in his office asking for more money. Norlander also said he had other coaches who don't care. One's who are not afraid to say, "Sorry we can't give you any more."

Evidently that is what happened to Aberdeen at Florida. He wanted something like $2 mil and Golden said, "Nope."

But it is funny how some coaches are trying to keep everything a secret because they are literally afraid of their own kids trying to re-negotiate.

Gary Parrish CBS Eye on CBB preseason picks us #2 after Houston and in front of Purdue and UConn, his partner Matt Norlander said top 5.
I know Purdue was Sweet 16 this year. Haven't followed who is coming back or their portal additions.

Did they sign a bunch of top transfers?

As of today 89% of the 247 top 100 transfers have committed. Of the 11 top 100 players yet to committee, 10 of them are in the top 37 (players like Luis and Boogie who for now are set on going pro).

Very good chance we'll maintain the #1 transfer portal position.

Further, 97% of the 247 top 100 high school recruits have committed.

There will still be some movement over the next couple months in the preseason rankings, such as Karaban's decision yesterday to return to UConn. That said, the vast majority of players are set, so when sites like CBS and ESPN have us #2/#3 today, there's a legit shot the AP will rank us in that range preseason. Hard to believe, but our preseason floor at this point is very, very high.
