2025-26 Rankings

So we beat the spread (28.5) in the W&M game and yet we fell one spot in the rankings.🙄 Is that because of our first half in that game? I don't get it!😬

It's about the teams surrounding us, Gonzaga took our #13 spot after they blew out Creighton by 27 (deserved 6 spot bump for them). In a week we'll have every opportunity to jump back into the top 5, or lose all of our votes entirely.

Not sure about the top 5, but certainly move up. Let's hope it is NOT the latter of your described options.

It'd be very tough to go 3-0, but Iowa St is #8 KenPom, Baylor #25, and the third game would have to be another highly ranked team too. We'd be 6-1 with 3 Q1 wins, which I think would get us back to our preseason hype and enough to reenter the top 5. Every AP team but one from #9-#15 already has a loss at this point, and in two weeks (after Vegas trip) almost the entire AP Top 25 should have at least one loss. Most teams also wouldn't have nearly as strong a SOS as us.

As for the latter part, for that first Iowa St game I think we'll be dogs, so I'd just be happy to still have a ranking by our name by the end of the week (2-1 week). I think a 1-2 would (and should) knock us out of the rankings.

Too much attention paid to rankings this early in the year. Continue to improve, work out the PG kinks, improve the defense, and take some more 3-pt shots. The effort is to become a team that no one wants to face in March.

I think all of us are really just focused on the results for the Vegas trip, the AP ranking is just a fun bonus to think about (for those of us who enjoy numbers). If we go 3-0 I wouldn't really care if the AP ranks us #3 or #8, I'd just be thrilled to add 3 strong Q1 wins to our resume.

You're right of course that improving throughout the year is critical, but realistically with how bad the BE has been we do need to start accumulating some strong wins next week if we want a high seed in March. There's a real possibility that we play as many ranked teams next week (2 or 3 if you count Baylor being top 25 in KenPom) as we do for the entire Big East schedule (UConn 2X).

I think its the week 6 poll where the national champion has always been ranked inside the top 12 (since 2003), so I certainly care about that one. lol.
That’s a real stat ? Wow I’ve never heard that one before. That’s interesting
