2025-2026 Season

After Zuby, there's at least 6 or 7 other guys who in any given game could be indispensable!
Pitino has noted frequently for this team to reach max success they must defend at a consistently high level. If that is true, Zuby and Mitchell will lead the charge in that respect. Thus, my Mitchell selection.

Sometimes, we spend too much time looking at offense. Obviously it should not be ignored, but our bread and butter last year & Pitino’s area of prime concern is D.

Interesting choice between Jackson (most indispensable player according to Kranmars and Eric) and Mitchell (most indispensable according to Paultzman). The similarities are they are both obviously talented being 5 star MacDonald All-Americans. The differences in my opinion are Jackson will bring more to the table offensively and Mitchell will excel with his rebounding and defense. It's a close call so I'll say it's a pick'em between who will be more indispensible for the Johnnies this year.

I agree with who said there are many indispensable players. I am higher on Jackson than others but I would go with Mitchell or Hopkins as they are veterans along obviously with Zuby.

You have to remember that Sanon and Jackson are Sophomores.

From Zach:
A few notes:

-- Rick Pitino declined to name his starting five.

-- Pitino stressed the need for team to be better defensively. It's clearly his top concern.

-- Pitino on expectations: "For me, personally, I feel like I'm back at Louisville or Kentucky. It's the same feeling I had at Louisville, same feeling I had at Kentucky. That was the norm. So this is the norm now for St. John's."

-- Dillon Mitchell singled out Joson Sanon this week in practice as someone who is really trying to do other things besides scoring.

Clearly, Mitchell is becoming a Pitino class pet. No issue with me, if Sanon shows he can do more than just shoot/score -- watch out.

Zuby is definitely most indispensable player on the team. That second spot, I may go with Darling. If he's out for any period of time, our ball handling becomes extremely suspect for all 40 minutes.
Indispensable w/o Zuby is the exercise. To me that means a player you must have in lineup to win. I can see us winning a big game w/o Darling, but hard pressed to have much confidence without Zuby and Mitchell, both veterans who can make big plays at both ends of court. Without them, who rebounds? Ruben can’t compensate for that.

My agreement was more the number 2 for Jackson and not necessarily Zuby most important although of course he is super important.

After watching him play I actually think Mitchel could be number 1 if he is gonna handle the ball more than initially thought as a point forward.

He looks to have such an exciting game. Even couple free throws looked good!

He’d have been a lottery pick already if he had any kind of jump shot beyond 12 feet
I really think there are arguments for any of Hopkins, Mitchell or Darling to be our second most indispensable player. Time will tell but don’t see any of Jackson, Sanon or Sellers being that role and I love Sellers.
