2021 Mets

Scherzer ?
Mets offering 4 years, which for starters is more than what was expected.   My guess is that for the Mets to be successful, will have to offer 4, plus year 5 at team's option, and a player opt out.

God, I hope Scherzer is better than late-career Pedro or (gulp) Glavine.

$130M, 3-year deal

if we get 2 good years out of him it’s worth it. Play to win now

I want 2 great and 1 good in that order.

Thank you Uncle Steve it’s been an excellent few days with the signings

Now do you want Stroman back ? We can fill out the starters without him technically but I’d still like him as our #3 unless there is another solid guy we can get

I love Stro.
He's a workhorse. Fantastic ground ball pitcher. No better fielder at his position.
And he's built for this market.

I thought Gausman's 5 year deal for $110 M is a much better value that 39 year old Scherzer's 3 year deal for $130 M

While they might have had problems getting front office types, they have had no problems accumulating players.  If George Steinbrenner was alive he would be livid as the Mets have all of the back (and maybe some front) pages and news while my Yankees sit on their hands.

Actually Cohen is the new George S., Willing to spend money to make his team a winner and not shy being in the spotlight and talking (imagine George if Twitter were around in his day).

He is going for it all, and while in the end the last few years of a contract might not look good, the window doesn't stay open forever and if you have a team, you need to strike while the iron is hot.

I like that Cohen is spending his money. A lot of Free Agent signings don't work out and we are signing older players but until we rebuild our minor leagues this is all we can do. Still need a new manager and while even if we are reasonably healthy this is not a great team even if we add another average starting pitcher and a replacement for Loup but who thought the Giants would win 107 games last season with on paper looked very average.

37.  us older guys don't like years tacked on.

Baez to the Tigers.

I'm actually fine with this. He played well in meaningless games for us. Was not a huge fan  - too hot or cold at the plate, and his thumbs down to the fans pissed me off.

Take that $140M and spend it elsewhere like Stro, bullpen or Kris Bryant, who I really like.

Guys that strike out that much are liabilities.    I liked the fact that he was good buddies with Lindor and motivated each other.  But it worked the other way with the thumbs down also.   I'd prefer to keep McNeil and certainly not trade him off a down season.

I keep hearing/reading about trading McNeill and/or Dom.
Don't understand this.
What value can you get back for either of those guys after the season they just had?

I am more greedy. I would change the "or" in your last sentence to "and".  Baez going could move McNeil back to second base.  I love Stro's efforts and durability and Bryant could be attracted by money and commitment to winning by the Max signing.  And yes the bullpen needs to be rebuilt w/o Loup.

Dam--this is going to be a great hot stove season as we await pitchers and catchers in 2 plus months.
