2016-2017 Season Thread

Would make a great replacement at StonyBrook.

A graduate transfer is like being a free agent.

Perhaps he does go to a local program that has a good shot at winning their league championship and making the dance.

Ive put my thoughts about next season on another thread but will reiterate here. With Lovett, ponds, bashir, freudenberg and Owens joining the squad next season we are adding quite a bit of very good talent. And more importantly we will have guys that can handle the ball. This season our biggest issue was no point guard.... guys being the primary ball handlers when they normally would have had the ball in their hands 20% of the time instead of 70% that equals turnovers galore and poor decision making

Sorry for my optimism but I see us in the NCAA tourney next year with the full squad. Lovett ponds and bashir are a big difference. I know many here like to temper win total expectations but I don't see it. I tempered expectations this year once our pg Lovett wasn't playing...im raising them with our talent coming in. My opinion is that ponds is playing like the 5 star that we all want and him, Lovett and bashir will add a lot more than many will let themselves admit to

It took Seton Hall 2 years to convert their monster recruiting class (including a McDonald's AA guard) into an NCAA tourney team. Unless you assume that Willard is completely inept at coaching, then I don't see why we should get there any faster with our incoming talent. But of course, would love to be wrong.

Do you know if Jones is looking to stay local or head back home?

Would love to see him at St. Francis or Wagner. Stony Brook also if the coach stays.

Plus if he stays local Mase can catch a game.

Dare I say that Jones' performance in the last two games of the season was an audition for a role elsewhere for next year.

Would make a great replacement at StonyBrook.

He could step right into Warney's spot and eat up the America East next year
If he watched Stony Brook play in the title game, he must be salivating at that thought
I would hate to see CJ leave, but this would be a much better option for his future

I believe Christian Jones would get significant time next season if he stays at StJohn's.

I see a lot of posters predicting that Ponds is going to start from Day 1 next season, but I don't see it that way. I think Mullin will start LoVett and Mussini in the backcourt, with Ahmed, Yakwe and Sima up front.

Doubt it, Mussini couldn't even start over Ellison down the stretch of the season.

I didn't see it that way. Mussini coming off the bench felt like a move to mitigate the burn out factor that was clearly setting in. I liked the fact that Ellison raised his game as the season went on, but to me, FM showed the most maturity in the backcourt.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ponds doesn't start the first few games. If he doesn't Ellison will start alongside Lovett. He took Mussini's spot because the coaching staff thought he deserved it and I think Mussini would have to win it back. Either way Ponds is a special player and he will find his way into a starting role before long. I saw him twice this year and he didn't come out of either game.

Never was a big Jones fan. But of late his play has me intrigued. Last game he looked great. He will be a senior and is our only real muscle. I would rather have him stay unless he is being replaced by a player that would help us more.

Would a 5th yr big man transfer really be more productive than what Jones would be next year. Had he spent the past 4 yrs at some mid-major program, he would very possibly be the 5th yr transfer guy many here would be clamoring to come.
