2011-2012 FInal Record Prediction

19 + 1 in the BET...this could get them into the dance with that schedule.

11 wins

Why so pessimistic LMF? Don't you think they'll win as many as 7 or 8 OOC? And if so, do you, really expect 3-15 or 4-14 in the BE? With good coaching and all that physical talent and scoring ability they should be able to overcome their lack of depth and size enough time to win more than that, no?

14 wins is what i think this team is capable of this year. The talent is clearly there.. but i think size and inexperience will play a big factor in the teams fortunes this year. Hopefully i am wrong.. but honestly i just hope the team plays a scrappy brand of basketball that fans and prospective recruits will gravitate towards. At least we can all agree that no matter how this team does this year that better days are ahead of us for sure.

I'm thinking around 14 also and I'm totally fine with that.

Our schedule is Brutal and we are so young. It's going to be exciting though watching these kids grow thru the year and just watching their potential.

Big things start next year for us

Let's not sell these kids short. This is a team made up of highly rated players out of high school as well as 2 of the better juco's that were out there. yeah they may be a little thin in terms of numbers, however the only thing in my opinion that will derail this team would be foul trouble. the rotation they used the other day plus amir will still be better than most teams. we have one of the top coaching staffs in the country, i am looking forward to a successful season. they can put up 20 wins as long as they play smart defensively and don't get stupid charges and with our coaches im sure they will teach these guys the tricks theyll need to succeed. my prediction is 21 wins

I don't think anyone is selling them short.. but the fact of the matter is that they are just that KIDS. Talented or not they will be going up on some nights against players 3 and 4 years older who have experienced the grind and physical nature of the big east and college basketball in general. The success last year was in most part due to the staff getting the most of our players.. but a part of it was the senior laden team we had. Physically mature and experienced made a huge difference with the right coaching. I would love to see this team win 20 games. I just don't see it happening.

I am in no way comparing them to the michigan team of 91 because 4 of those guys were in the top 10 in recruiting, however, we have an awful lot of talent. I dont think that just because a team is young that they cant pull it together and win a ton of games especially with the coaching staff we have. I think some times we forget that this team is nothing like the sju teams of recent history. we have some of the top talent in the country on the floor. these guys are really capable of anything, as long as they stay on the floor. like i said, foul trouble will be our Achilles heal with this team. the talent level is phenomenal.

I agree with rawdog's recent post. I also do not buy into the addage of youth not being able to excel. Especially, in college basketball where we've witness youth being able to compete and win games. I don't think we have "Fab 5" talent nor do I believe we're a Final Four team. But, I do believe we have enough talent to compete and win this season.

We're probably gonna be a bit of a rollercoaster team, as depth and in some cases, lack of interior will haunt us. I think we'll be able to compete due to our overall talent. Do I think we're a 20-win team at this point? No. I do believe we can certainly win 17 games.

What some of you apparently don't understand is that almost all of the BE as well as several out of conf teams have talented players as well only they more depth and experience they we do. We are not the only team with talented players. I am not blaming our players or staff for the predicament that we find ourselves in and it is good our kids are confident but our lack of hight, depth and experience is sure to hinder us this season but luckily our future seems very bright. You cannot just look at our team you must consider our opponents. If we were playing a MAC schedule I would agree with the optimistic record predictions of many of our posters but Duke, UCLA, Kentucky, Arizona, Miss St or Tex A&M and the likes of Uconn, Syr, Pitt, Ville, and the like will keep our record from being what we all would like it to be and what it will be in the future. In short I believe some of you are going to be in for a reality check. That being said I sincerely hope I am the one who is wrong and we all can enjoy a winning season. Go Redmen!

I would say 16-17 wins. If we can somehow get to 18 and win a game in the BET than I think that gets us to the dance. Like some other posters have been saying though; we have ALOT of talent, I think that's clear. But, it's easy to forget alot of the teams on our schedule have talented rosters as well. It's been so long since we had any top ranked recruits that it's easy to overlook the fact that 'Cuse and Louisville, UConn, and even the Marquettes and West Virginias, have regularly been recruiting top 100 talent. They might not have rosters complete with top recruits, but they're there. We aren't the only team playing with bullets in our gun...

With that said; I think our coaching staff, and style of play give us an advantage over some of these other schools... but at the end of the day they have talent too, and the big difference is that their talent are sophomores, juniors and seniors now.

14 wins,,,,,,,, 1 win in BET,,,,,NIT invite.

Couldn't let this one pass without pointing out that 15-16 coming out of the BET won't get an NIT invite. They'll need at least 17+1 and likely more to get an NIT invite.

I see this team getting 9 ooc wins if they win the holiday festival with 8 more coming in the BE. 17 wins plus 1 more in the BE tourney puts you on the fringe of the NCAA tourney, we saw last year how many weak teams got into the dance. And if pelle and garrett come back and the team shows improvement in passing the "eye test" I guarantee the committee will look past some of the early season growing pains. While the big east is far and away the best conference I will go out on a limb and say this group will not be intimidated. There are still a chunk of bad teams in the conference who have inferior players.

no depth, no size, no experience, no coach for about the first month of organized activities, a brutal out of conference schedule, and a tough BE schedule.

After we finish with the cream puffs there just aren't a lot of wins left on that schedule unless this team turns out to be equally as surprising as last year's.

I'm figuring you don't get to pull a rabbit out of a hat every year.

Agree, but they do have good coach in Dunlap, they have talent and that goes a long way. I would settle for 500 on the big east schedule and watching some close games

I think they will be better late in the season but there are going to be some awful rough stretches in there. Lavin is the right guy for this group and this season, then will need some positive vibes.

Next year should be a much better year.

I think 17 wins is attainable, and that includes 8 big east wins versus Providence, Georgetown (who they always play well against, beat them last year and played them close 2 years ago on new years eve), USF (first road win of the season), West Virginia (another team they play well against, blew a big lead against them last year or two years ago), DePaul (both times they play them), Cincy at home and Seton Hall. Out of conference I think they could beat UCLA, but will get killed by Kentucky, I also think they'll lose at Detroit, vs one of the teams in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament and lose to one of the teams they play at CA like Texas Pan-American. Last year they had two losses to crappy teams, Fordham and St. Bonny, SJU is good for a let down vs some bad team.

roster and coach dependent, with Amir and Sir Dom as DJ like glue guys (which allows Hark to give GG a blow, 17 plus at least one in BET. Lavs healthy is a big factor on the morale side as these guys committed to him.

From the truly disturbed other side of my brain, does success for GGA lead to the nickname Lord GAGA?
