#20 Marquette, Sat., Mar. 8, 12 Noon, FOX

I think Marq win locks us in as a three seed with upside of a 2.
Yeah that’s how I see it too with the exception of a loss to a Butler/Providence on Thursday of the BET then lots going wrong around us to drop us to a 4.

Lose to Marquette plus a loss on Friday of the BET and I think we’re probably 50/50 on being a 3 vs 4. That’s why this game is so important

I think if we win Saturday and win the following Thursday we are in all likelihood a three. Alternatively if we lose Saturday and make the BET final we are a three. One of those will happen if not better imho.

If player's health is at risk, do you value a road win over what would be considered a home loss at MSG in the BE tournament?
OK well I probably need to insert emojis to clarify when I'm being mildly facetious - it was a reference to a former poster who will remain nameless.

But in fairness I did post it in reply to Mug and I agree completely with him that the game is important for NCAA seeding. If they win they are pretty much guaranteed a 3 and have a shot at getting to a 2 depending on BET performance and what happens elsewhere.

Not sure I care much whether we are a 2 or a 3 but if we lose to MQ then we could be in potential 4 territory if we do not do well in the BET and I do not want to be a 4.

So the game does matter a fair bit from a "breathing room" standpoint.

If we run the table we're a 2 seed.
If we lose only 1 more game we're a 3 seed.
If we lose 2 more games we're probably a 4 seed.

Just a reminder that we will not be favored in this game. One of the few games we've been underdogs this year. ESPN only gives us a 37% chance of winning.

I've gone from - Let's rest some guys, house money game, who cares.... to - This is a great opportunity to test our fortitude - probably will be the Toughest environment of the Season, Senior Day, FiServ will be rockin... great test prior to "neutral" site games coming up...

Last Road game until we play Duke in Newark.

We re in a brave new world where we re concerned about seeding. ITS AWESOME!!!

Now is when CRP is playing chess instead of checkers. He knows that there isnt a next season with this squad, so we have to figure out whats the best path to go as deep as possible in the tourney. Is it resting banged up players or going for every single win?

I trust our coach.

GO JOHNNIES!!!!

Nothing beats winning on Marquette’s Court . We owe them for decades of lopsided losses and recently for the Kolek and Igudaro years .

If we lose this game and anywhere in the BET , except the finals , it is a negative for the Seeding Committee .

Which as we know, isn’t BE friendly these days .

With rare exception this season , we really haven’t blown out too many opponents in BE play .

Often times , being down in the last 10 minutes or so but , able to pull away in the last minutes of the game .

The SH game was much closer than a 10 point win . Butler was close too.

And , the games lost have all been decided by 1 or 2 points . Even going back to Nov 2024.

Best idea is to win out going into NCAA.

Senior day + long layoff + Marquette playing with desperation gets the best of us, despite some very clear mismatches. Other prediction, board freaks out rest of the day about how we haven't stopped dribble penetration for three straight games.

Hope I'm wrong!

Posted earlier in the year when we were unranked that we probably win 6 out of 10 games @ Marquette and still feel that way if fully healthy. Great matchup for us even though it’s a huge home court advantage for them. If they are making a ton of shots and pull away, call off the dogs.

The concern resting guys is if we lose this and then lose in the BET, we are a 4 seed with a presumably much tougher path.

I don't see this as a house money game at all for us. We really should want it. If X beats UConn in round 1, all of a sudden we're playing a hot team playing for their lives & we can be on a two game losing streak with a committee ready to make us a four seed.

I'm thinking its a fake one where we're down 5 with two minutes and foul shots inflate it by the end.

Probably pretty close to being right but not sure it's that simple. If we lose to Marquette and then lose on Saturday of the BET to Creighton or Marquette again I think there's a good chance we land as a 3.

The other teams in the 3/4/5 seed range right now are pretty much all from the SEC, B10, and B12. Those teams will have ample opportunity to pick up multiple bigtime wins in those conference tournies so it's difficult to simplify our scenarios when so much will depend on what happens around the rest of the country.

I think there’s a scenario where we could lose 2 more times and still be a 3 seed, but I’d put those odds at less than 50%. We’ll see what happens.
