#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Was a bit dissapointed with Vince out there. He was neither viable offensively or defensively.
Just not viable? The offspring of a dog and a pigeon would be more viable.

He is truly awful. He has no clue out there and it makes no sense to play him when Prey won’t hurt us.

I’m to the point where why not just play Maker 2 minutes around the under 12 and let his instincts guide him?

I have never seen a college team that rotates and recovers as well as these guys. They are also blessed w bigs like Scott, Zuby & Prey who hold their own on switches to wings or guards. Rick knows we are not winning offensive shootouts & got players to embrace notion their best chance to be very good was to defend at elite level. Well done Rick!
And the positional size and length makes it very tough for guards to penetrate on the dribble

I can't remember any team that plays with so much effort. Defense...offensive rebounding...unbelievable. My heart can't take all those missed free throws...but this team has a winner's mentality.
I was about to write that in 60 years of watching, I have never seen a St. John's team play this hard. But the truth this St. John's team plays as hard as any college team I have ever seen. They don't let bad bounces and bad calls and poor shooting affect them. They just keep on fighting. Credit to Marquette who matched St. John's intensity most of the way. But our guys just keep on battling. Their effort and toughness is something to watch.

In a thrilling Big East showdown at Madison Square Garden, the No. 12 St. John's Red Storm secured a 70-64 victory over the No. 11 Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday night. This win extends St. John's impressive streak to nine consecutive victories, elevating their season record to 20-3 and maintaining an unblemished 15-0 mark at home.

The Red Storm's success was anchored by standout performances from key players. Guard Kadary Richmond delivered a near triple-double, contributing 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Forward RJ Luis Jr. added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while center Zuby Ejiofor dominated the paint with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

St. John's showcased their defensive prowess and control of the boards, out-rebounding Marquette 50-28 and limiting the Golden Eagles to 29% shooting in the second half. Despite struggling at the free-throw line, missing 14 attempts, the Red Storm maintained composure in the closing minutes. A pair of free throws by Ejiofor gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish, and a subsequent dunk by Aaron Scott, assisted by Richmond, extended the advantage, igniting the home crowd.

Marquette's effort was led by Chase Ross, who scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Guard Kam Jones, hindered by early foul trouble, managed 15 points, with 13 coming in the second half.

This victory not only solidifies St. John's position atop the Big East standings but also enhances their resume for a potential NCAA Tournament bid. The team's resilience and balanced contributions underscore their status as a formidable contender in college basketball this
season.
