NIL’s

That is total crap: Students who are paying for their education having to additionally pay the huge salaries of athletes who get a free ride.

But it all figures in. Kids often choose schools based on successful sports team (branding) sowhy not have them pay to help sustain winning.

In the end, the little guys - fans who attended games with lower tickets prices within their budgets - are getting squeezed out. T- shirts that simply say Johnnie$ is appropriate.

For those who have a subscription to the Athletic, interesting article today titled

"What we’re hearing about college basketball budgets in revenue-sharing era: ‘Money-dump year’"

One nugget is that it says based on estimated payroll the BE is competitive with the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 at around $8m -$8.5m per team whereas the SEC is at $9.7m.

The debate is what's going to happen to the supplemental (collective) money and how much cheating will return.

Predicts (as most have) that the BE and A10 may very well be able to outspend the football leagues by not having to direct revenue to places other than basketball.

Also notes that the uncertainty is delaying commitments from HS stars (although I have also seen it reported that they are an unimpressive lot so who knows).

The Athletic does a very good job covering sports.

At first glance appears to largely rubber stamp the process that was already created via the CSC. The note about Title IX enforcement is interesting and probably reflects an intent to dilute the financial pool in order to limit payments to men's football and basketball players. A shot across the bow, I suppose.
