Connecticut (MSG), Sun., Feb. 23, 12 Noon, FOX

Traveling up from Virginia with my 8yr old for this one. We already saw the blowout at Georgetown, looking forward to a hard fought W!

Can't stand the pukon fans.

Most anticipated game in a long time imo.
Hope all is well Desco, miss having your around here.

Not picking against them just think it’s going to a very tough game. Hurley will have UCONN about juiced up for this game as possible.
They can be as juiced up as they want. it does not matter.

We run MSG, it;s OURS, and there's no damn body that's going to come into OUR HOUSE, and beat us.
It's just the way it is with Rick as our coach.

To all those Yukon fans reading this, get ready for a sweep.

And hearing us SJU fans chanting SWEEP!!! SWEEP!!! SWEEP!!!! as you all are walking out all pissed off.

Students should be given priority for end zone tickets, regardless of revenue generation for the university.
That no doubt will be the case, that student sections are set aside for students. Honestly, except for a small band of maybe 200 students who have been coming to games even in the bidless Anderson years, most students filling thise sections now were not even there at the beginning of this season.

Schools always recognize the need for raucous student sections close to the court that establish home court advantage.

The last major reseating at CA bumped the entire section at CA opposite the home bench and closest to the court to create a student section. However it was done in a down year and few students showed up and many who were moved canceled their season tix.

Can someone explain what protections are in place to prevent students from.reselling or giving seats to afults who don't belong there?

I think UConn is great for the conference, and I think it's great that their fans love MSG. It's very healthy to have 25% of the Garden filled with the fans of the opposition IMO. Obviously you don't want a 50/50 situation to completely squander the home court advantage. 75/25 makes for a very lively event and give us a chance to overcome some adversity.

I’m not sure using the words “ great for the BE Conference ,” are what I would apply to UCONN.

The usual perspective of them being the only State funded school in the league has had great advantage for them .

And , the NIL portal era only multiples that advantage

The BE would be fine without them .

Recall they left the League in a flash some years ago , when they fantasized they would join one of the big Football conferences . Only to find out they weren’t wanted by any of those schools .
They floundered in the AAC in BB and were on their way to being forgotten as a National Power .

We should have let that happen . But , no the BE bean counters , made a argument that letting them back into the BE was good business .

Good Business ? Sure for UCONN but , not the rest of the league .

They hired Hurley to replace the fired Kevin Olley and he used all the $$$ to turn the Huskies back into a dominant BE team . This year excepted.

And , the likelihood is they will continue to be at , or near that top tier (5) for quite a long time

UCONN should be in.a State University League , not a private , mostly Catholic one .

That my view

I've changed my opinion on this on the board 50 times so don't bother trying to dig up these receipts :). I admit it :):):)

Now that we have Pitino I think they are good for the league. You want that team that you want to clobber. You want that 1 team with the rudest fanbase possibly ever. You want a crazy albeit excellent coach like Hurley who is absolutely out of control during a lot of games

Then when they come play you at MSG on a Sunday and you kick their ass it makes the ride home so much more satisfying. Not just because you beat Uconn but you beat a good team

The key to the game will be how well we defend McNeeley .

We can’t let him go off for 30 plus points . Which he is capable of doing .

Plus , defending Ball is critical too . Karaban has shown some evidence of merging from his hibernation and can’t be forgotten, either .

Those 3 players can all shoot the 3 and if they are hot , they could be a problem for us and our 2 point game .

Scott may have to guard McNeeley and leave Ball to Wilcher and Smith .
KR may have to step up and handle Karaban , if RJ can’t play .

Key for us will be if RJ plays and at , a RJ level .

Go Johnnies !

I don’t understand that , NC. Why ? If it’s UCONN ?
Because it is great for the prestige and the respect it brings from the rest of the basketball world, no different than when Nova won two championships within a few years. The same reason most Big East fans were rooting for UCONN to win the finals the past two years even though they root against them all year long.

Everyone complains about strength of schedule. If you don't like the idea of them being in the conference just look at this as a home and away against a solid opponent that improves our strength of schedule. We have.a great team this season and with the NCAA's coming up I would much rather have this game than one against St. Louis.

UConn is imperative for the Big East. Look at the TV ratings our game did with them. We need as many top programs in the country as possible. I don’t think they have an institutional advantage over others in the top tier of the conference. Hell, you can argue their football costs them a ton of money and hurts them more.

BE needs as many top programs as possible in it. We also need as many top rivalries and blood feuds as possible. Hopefully Nova and Georgetown figure it out.

If these kids wanted to get tickets easily they should’ve attended St. John’s when I did lol

sucks to think we’d be in a new big east golden age if Jay wright didn’t tap out

I only hope that the small band of students who have loyally come to games going as far back as CMAs last 2 years are being taken care of.

Spoiled entitled generation of kids who whine and get everything they want from asshole parents (us.)

I'd have tons of sympathy if they showed up from day 1 and are now being squeezed. Honestly, they deserve nothing. Right now at home games, both endzones are filled with our students. Just a few games ago the end zone on the side of our bench was 3/4 empty.

Schools with tech savvy put tickets on the school issued student debit card and give kids point for attending low demand games and sports. For big games vs a Duke, for example, kids with the most points get tix in priority order.

Kull should implement this but pretty certain coming from Fordham has no experience with it. Maybe our partners can help.

End of story. Good problem to have. No sympathy for those "suddenly passionate" student fans. Of course there's always stubhub.

I see this less as sympathy for the students and more as an infrastructure issue at St. John's. The students are the lifeblood at MSG. I noticed at Xavier and Marquette games that chants were far easier to get sustained. How? Students led the charge and it emanated to the 100s/200s sections. I know Kull didn't say or allude to this, but wild student sections is one of the key atmosphere things that separates college basketball from the G league or a random NBA game. Seeing this as a pure economics issue is missing the point of why this is a bad thing.

We need to encourage and be friendly about them coming -- loyal or not. Honestly, this would be the perfect opportunity for a rich donor to buy tickets off Stubhub and give it to them. They're the ones that help the team win more than a guy in his mid-30s like me.

I do understand this year, it was hard to economically predict the demand. I hope we're more aggressive next year. Yes, try to encourage student season tickets as soon as possible and use this as an example of why they need it locked in. But MSG should never feel a need to provide feevo discounts to opposing teams and we should never give opposing teams good tickets for their crew. We should feel confident about blocking out sections in the 200s for students who want to come to games in the future who aren't season ticket holders.
