More Storr!!!!

Tell that to Uconn who has become a dominant program due to a good amount of 4 star recruits.
Cool. And maybe while I'm at it I can tell it to all the other programs who aren't immediately starting every four-star kid they land, for whatever reason they may have.

I'm glad Larry is actually a long time poster WASJU. Shout out to you. You create fun and interesting convo even though I think you are totally off base on the whole Wheeler thing.

Wonder if any of the other Johnny Jungle burnouts will ever come on over

In regards to Storr, trying to keep this semi on track... I understand people want him to play because of his ranking but he still has to earn minutes just like anyone else. He has looked good but very raw at times this year. Let him figure it out. It won't happen immediately for him
Understood Jack, but the issue in my opinion is that Wusu hasn’t earned the minutes that he’s getting this season with the way that he’s played and Storr’s possible upside is way beyond any upside that Wusu may have at this point. Therefore, I believe Storr should play.

I don't want Storr to play because of his ranking.

I want him to play because he has an upperclassman's body, fantastic athleticism, a great open-court game, has shown a penchant for hitting the corner three, and has put in on the floor with success.
I agree about his body and athleticism. But I have not seen anything that resembles a "great open court game" yet. There have been a couple times this season where he looks like he does not know what to do in the open floor. He runs up the court with speed but then often he puts his head down/drives and gets called for a charge. He has a lot of work to do in regards to finishing, avoiding offensive fouls.

I like some of the potential I have seen with his 3pt ball, but he also has not hit one in quite awhile now.

I do want him to get more minutes than he is getting currently, but he does have plenty of things to work on

I understand that. As of now, Wusu is averaging 18 mpg, with Storr averaging 12.6 mpg.

I would definitely support flipping that in favor of Storr. Unfortunately though we obviously did not have Wusu for the Iowa St game and Storr still only played around his average, logging 14 minutes.

So I don't know if its a Wusu vs Storr thing.

It might be a Mike A vs Storr thing. He has to have faith in Storr to perform in big games. It doesn't look like he does right now, judging by the awfully short leash he got in the Cuse game. Then not getting more minutes against ISU despite being down a wing.

I like Storr's potential so we will have to keep an eye on this

In this day, if he doesn’t see some serious playing time, I think he may fly the coop after this season, for more opportunities and cash.

It’s honestly just too early to be worried about it. As he starts performing better in practice, and learns what intensity to play with, he will get those minutes some of you are clamoring for. There’s still so much basketball to be played.

There’s a moment where it clicks for a freshman. It will click for Storr, and when it does he’ll be a mainstay. That’s how it’s always been.

Historically for the most part whenever ST John’s gets a talented highly regarded player they play right away and if they don’t they leave. Exceptions would be Shelton Jones and Dom Pointer. Can’t think of anyone else. If someone can please throw the name out there. Otherwise I guess don’t let facts get in the way of the narrative.

Chucky Sproling only played 15 mpg his first year for us. Wasn't he a highly regarded recruit at the time? Maybe I'm misremembering. Not that he went on to be a very good player for us, but he did hang around for 3 years.

this is the case for approximately 350 D1 programs.

Except for the 1991 Elite 8 run, Chucky looked and played like a deer in headlights the minute he suited up. And yes he was highly, highly rated just as Marcus Broadnax and the other guy we signed instead of Gary Payton.

The difference here is AJ Storr passes the Main Man eye test.

Based on what criteria? Shooting percentage? Because he's behind Mathis, Curbelo and Storr in FG & 3 pt percentages YTD. Or does Jones just look better? Actually Soriano, who you said was not exactly a skilled shot maker beats them all prrcentage wise.
At this point, I would categorize Jones as a volume shooter/scorer, not a shot maker.

I really don't want to see him hoisting up 3s all season. I thought (could be mistaken) that at DePaul, he was more of a slasher, around the rim kind of guy. He seems much more suited and effective in that role. he is not a good outside shooter (probably not as bad as the past few games but he should not earn his living off those).

Broadnax actually was the player we signed instead of Payton. But you're referring to Elander Lewis. Though, you could be right and I'm wrong.

Edit: I read an excerpt of an article and it was indeed Broadnax. All I can imagine is Payton on the '89-90 squad.

AJ is a worker. And he will eventually find himself in the mix. He’s just simply green right now like a lot of freshmen.

He’s gonna bud right before our eyes, but patience and trust will be needed from him.
This. AJ is in the gym before and AFTER games, good or bad. Kid lives in the gym. He's been raised right in a basketball family. A mom who has instilled work ethic and drive. He will be fine, just takes time. Not every freshman is Grady Dick or Anthony Black.

Best post in this thread. You summarized everything that needed to be said in the last 3-4 pages. AJ's time will come.

It was Broadnax. Payton actually signed first, but we didn’t accept it. I always felt we should have taken all three and that was beforr Gary Payton became GARY PAYTON, the glove.
