Johnnies Tidbits

Funny story johnnies related. We stayed at the hilton on the ave of americas last night. Nat decides she wants to get 150k hilton points signs us up for some time share sales pitch today at 930am there. Not a good idea as we had long dinner with nycredmen and his wife last night involving a lot of great French wine. Anyway I’m sitting through this sales pitch and somehow St. John’s gets brought up and the girl giving us the sales pitch was an ex girlfriend of Omar Cooks. She was a cheerleader at st Anthony’s when Omar was in high school. Small world. She said he really loves playing overseas

Believe Omar recently had an emotional retirement from basketball announcement.

If he had stayed here longer he would have had his own segment in the recent Point Gods doc. But he probably has a decent amount of money and is fluent in Montenegrin, so there's that.

Guys who come in with high expectations and hype don’t always pan out.

Prospects hidden in the shadows and plucked from obscurity eventually blossom at the next level.

For O’Mar Stanley, St. John’s family environment and the authenticity of the coaching staff was a major selling point. While he may have been a rather obscure 6-foot-8 forward coming out of Link Year Prep.

Prior to his commitment in the fall of 2020, wasn’t inundated with many high profile offers.

The process, however, went rather smoothly as Stanley committed following a memorable campus visit.

At 6-8 and 235 pounds, Stanley’s intriguing size and high horsepower style in battling for 50-50 balls are finer points of his hardwood trade.

He wasn’t as versatile as the quintessential guard/wing or wing forward in today’s recruiting climate.

Still, adding frontcourt depth and the type of body that would last in the physically, black and blue marked Big East and it’s notoriously unforgiving brand of play was enticing.

So couple of things from saturday at Kevins party that I heard. Sound system is definitely an improvement. Cragg hadn't even heard it yet since he was on the DR trip but I heard it's definitely an improvement but dont expect miracles a music friend of mine said separately that CA is just tough for acoustics so any of you music guys will I guess understand that because that's out of my league.

Also Otis mentioned this on Kevins thread but the common theme from everyone we spoke to is NIL is critical. Otis talked about it and once Wendell can cooridnate with his friend with storm marketing we should all be at a MINIMUM doing the 9.99 monthly donation in addition to donating to Paul here to keep up his expenses.

Cragg btw it's the first time I've really talked to him but what everyone who knows him and says about him is the truth. He is absolutely the real deal ! After bombarding him with my hard hitting pearl harbor carnesecca air condition question he wasn't phased. He was absolutely honest ( as was I with my offer to get on the roof and cut holes to let hot air out ) but we talked about a lot of things but what really hit me and trust me I can cut through BS nonsense is absolutely honest how much he loves being here and he'd rather be here than Duke because he thinks with conference realignment etc it's going to seriously affect the non power football teams in conferences and how happy he is where we are with our own hoops centric conference. My thoughts on Cragg are he is very strategic in thinking always thinking not what just happened but what will happen and try and think 2 steps ahead

He really impressed me but I'm still pushing to let me drill holes in the ceiling :)

If you get that contract to drill the holes, I'd like to get a couple of no-show jobs for me and a couple of my peeps. Thanks in advance. 😀

Full discosure Cragg response today I cant say exactly what he said but it wasn't a canned response and he did fully acknowledge that he knows I want to drill holes in the roof and if it ever comes to that I'm the first call. Thats all I ask ! Let me help ! :) just to reaffirm he's really one of us he is a great guy

Great post, Mike. I have also had the pleasure to chat with Cragg and agree he is a humble, genuine, thoughtful professional. Would love to see him here for an extended period.
