Homeland And All Things Maher

Has anybody watched "Winning Time" on HBO about the Showtime Lakers?

I don't have HBO, but I've seen clips like this and it looks awesome for any hoops fan.

I had a hard time getting into Billions. The characters are all unlikeable. No one to root for.

And I really like Wall Street movies. If you want a great movie about the 2008 real estate crash, check out "Margin Call" which has an incredible cast.

It's fast-paced and tense, taking place over the course of like 12 hours between the time a junior analyst realizes his firm is about to go belly up on its mortgage-backed securities to the time top management decides what to do with them.

It's very good but working in finance every time I watch one of the 2008 financial crisis movies I swear a version of ptsd kicks in

It isn’t bad. The characters are a little cartoonish, especially Jerry Buss and Jerry West, while casting Adrien Brody as Pat Riley is absurd.
After four episodes, Jeannie Bus comes across the best.

Just to add, overall it is a fun show. And as you can imagine the 1980’s Lakers were a crazy bunch.
The former Laker players and the NBA hate it because of the sex and drugs that are pronounced.
Side note, Norm Nixon is played by his son.
I will watch the entire series, and I think they are supposed to do a second season.

Finally getting around to watch "Last Chance U" documentary series on Netflix about JUCO football and basketball.
I'm starting with the latest one on Laney JUCO football in Oakland and it's excellent.
Highly recommended.

In my neighborhood. I should probably catch a game one of these years.

The doc is great, very relevant to St. John's of old where everyone was a commuter from the city or the inner burbs, and most students were working to put themselves through school.
The show did a lot on a changing city where the tech bubble forces housing prices through the roof pushing the working class and juco kids farther and farther to the margins.

We left San Francisco in 2009 because housing was out of control. The place I bought on the edge of Oakland Chinatown is now worth 3x more than what I bought it for. Luckily we were ahead of the wave of San Franciscans who suddenly realized that Oakland was cheaper and had way more sun.

At the time, I think it was the only new building. Fast forward a decade and new construction has been out of control, and it's definitely changing the character of the neighborhood. When my older daughter started grammar school, I don't think there were five white/half white kids in the whole school. We've lost a lot of working-class and lower-income families, who then displace the families on the rung below. The people at the bottom are squeezed out of the city completely.

Little Saigon on the other side of Laney College has more houses so not much room for new high-rises, but their problem is the same with skyrocketing rents.

Pandemic only exacerbated things with people losing hours/jobs.

My son has been waiting for this show anxiously. We plan on watching it after we watch Stanger Things Season 4 which also drops today. My son is funny. He says before we watch Obi Wan Kenobi we need to rewatch Star Wars I, II & III movies since this show starts right after Star Wars III. Whatever...I'll go along.

fwiw my buddy has a lot of similar show tastes as me except him not liking spy stuff but he also loves right now " the offer on paramount " the making of the godfather , life and beth on hulu and afterlife on netflix

Will be interesting to see how they work Vader in since it was always assumed they never met again until the Death Star.
I haven't read anything about it, so could be way off here. Maybe they don't actually meet in the series -- parallel lives-type thing. Or only meet in a flash forward on the Death Star.
