Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

You ask a serious question . I will give you a serious answer although I find the question insulting and offensive .
You don’t know me . To impugn my character as you and a few others have done is without class. The official game stat for Points in the Paint as 54 -40 .favor or Alabama. Points in the Paint refer to points scored in the front Court . Where the Paint is , right . It doesn’t refer to points scored by any player individually . Or , outside the paint .
Obviously , Zuby , Hopkins , Mitchell , scored points outside the paint .. Zuby had 29 and Hopkins 19 are our principal front Court players . They weren’t a factor down the stretch as they didn’t get the ball . Or , were on the Bench .

We all voice our options on here . Opinions are personal and individual in their contexts . Calling me a liar as your buddy did several times is nasty and mean spirited . You didn’t mention that .
You and 8-10 other posters don’t like my opinion . Fine , voice yours and leave mine alone .
You and those others here are very active posters . Everyday .often several times a day .

Equally , I would say to you , there are likely about the same number of people that do like what I post .
But , many of them and I won’t name them
But , we know who they are, Find that a lot of what they post gets criticized just because it doesn’t fit what you or others want to hear or that sees the game differently .

The RJ Luis controversy last season had a lot more posters questioning Pitino’s decision than just me . Go back and look . Even now , a number of posters , still question removing the BE POY from a close game with 4:56 left . I did get some messages from people that questioned Pitino’s decision to bench RJ .,

One of the things that I have never done is demean some one’s opinions or attacked them personally .
Sadly , others haven’t ascribed to that conduct .

I’m surprised at your personal attack too . You are a knowledgeable basketball fan and don’t need to resort to questioning my loyalty to St John’s . Which was a low bow .
I am a proud Alum of the School , donate to the University and been a fan of the BB Team since I was 9 years old . I have a granddaughter who will graduate in May from the Physician Assistant program .
It doesn’t speak well of you to comment as you did .

Pitino is a great BB Coach but , unlike the Pope ,not infallible . He does make mistakes like any Coach .
Sly, I didn't attack or impugn your character at all, simply asked if you considered yourself a fan of the current team since the overwhelming majority of your posts about the players and coach are pretty negative when we have one of the best teams we have had in years.
In any event, I am going to do what I should have done long ago and just ignore them going forward. Peace.

If anyone cares about the Alabama perspective I had Charles Branch join me for the post game recap to see how the other side is feeling. Was a fun discourse, although I'm sure many won't care. That being said - we're now the biggest Alabama fans in the country.

It was very good listen, Dave.

Not expecting many assists from him believe me. But if he can score at an efficient level and become average to above average rebounder, he can really help this team. The problem is everything you just said about Sanon could be said for Jackson. There is too much of an overlap there for guys who aren’t showing to have much positional versatility.
Correct! The overlaps would be fine IF they were reliable on both offense and defense but as of November they are not efficient at neither. Jackson needs to get a new head on his shoulders! I would start with a shorter haircut since he has too much DRAG and it might be slowing him down.☺️

Not really.

It's more complicated than this but here's a bare bones explanation:

Jackson had 14 FGA + 2 trips to the FT line + 2 turnovers = ~18 possessions ending with him resulting in 14 points.

Sanon 6 FGA + 2 trips to the line + 0 turnovers = ~8 possessions ending with him for 7 points.

Sanon 100 offensive rating for the game.
Jackson 88 offensive rating for the game.

Jackson did have 3 assists compared to Sanon's 0 which boosted his ORtg a bit.
This is a case when statistics are irrelevant and more irrelevant.

Sat next to an NBA GM at the game, many of you likely saw him there.....the general overview of his thoughts on SJ is that they will be fine. Had zero concerns over lack of PG and he thought they would figure it out defensively....kept pointing out how Rick likes to guard the line and for some reason Ian Jason and Sellers were always back on their heels both allowing to much space and not putting them in position to close air space. But bc of their athletic ability it's a fixable situaton. Lost a lot of 50/50 balls but majority not do to hustle, plus Philon is a stud.

Always good when the top brass minds have similar thoughts to astute fans watching...we will be fine. Learn from it, let the sting wear off, and get better.

Having a five month old certainly changes priorities & time. Finally got around to watching first half. It’s easier to rewatch knowing the result, less of an emotional sting.

But I saw a team with plus plus athletes, miss some defensive rotations due to mis-or lack of-communication (Bryce!), and also had a unique advantage over a legit top team in the country: the front court. We also had them on the ropes on offense a couple of times with the shot clock running down: massive accomplishment

I’m sure I’ll get frustrated in the second half. But this team will be fine. Alabama had a lot of guys returning and the best guard on the court. It’s a loss I expected.

Watched second half. I admit that seeing it a few days later takes any emotional sting away, but I really don’t get most of the negativity on here. We were down 3 with under 3 to go.

What stood out to me was:
— Rick was stubborn keeping Ayo on Holloway. It was a bad call, easy to see, and backfired.
—We miss Kadary big time. Under 3, team struggled to generate good looks.
— Guards are obviously behind the front court offensively, but the glimpses from Jackson are very encouraging. It’s still mindboggling Rick ever thought he could be a PG, or strayed from getting another one to get him. But still, Ian may very well have the RJ role late in games & we may be fine.
— Sellers is not being put in his best position to succeed. Darling may not have been able to stay on the court defensively, but I wish we were able to see what may have happened.
— Mitchell really didn’t play great. We needed more.
— Prey will be a preseason all BE guy next year. Book it.

We may not be a top five team now, but we definitely can by March. I think they’re much more talented than last year’s team offensively, and have a higher defensive ceiling than I thought.

Reminds me when my daughter was 3 months old. We were playing Duke at Cameron Indoor. When I picked her up we started to go on a run in the second half. I didn’t put her down fearing it would be a jinx. She fell asleep on my shoulder and when Bootsy hit a jumper in the final minute for the eventual win I let out a loud YES. My kid woke up startled. The wife made it known I was never to carry her again while St. John’s was playing.

Great post sir. Like everyone else on this board, I was thinking the same thing about Philon. Reminded me of prime Marbury.

Thanks for posting.
