Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

If anyone cares about the Alabama perspective I had Charles Branch join me for the post game recap to see how the other side is feeling. Was a fun discourse, although I'm sure many won't care. That being said - we're now the biggest Alabama fans in the country.

Guys, darling will be the first to tell you he is not a great defensive player. 🤣🤣🤣. No secret here. Stating a readily evident fact that no one disputes is tantamount to throwing someone under the bus? What world are we living in?
So you know Darling and speak for him? I was born to respect people (I certainly don’t always do it) and adhere to the old adage “praise in public, criticize in private”.
And I guess Pitino was trying to motivate Luis when he went scorched earth on him publicly after the Arkansas game? Luis showed him how a real man carries himself.

Honest question.

Is there any site where a team loses and fan's don't naturally critique? I mean the word FAN is derived from FANATIC. People watch soap opera's every day or crochet or do crack. We come here.
Wait - other people don't pregame while watching soap operas and then crocheting and doing crack during the games? it's only me???? I thought mostly all of us did all of that. I mean except Marillac doesn't crochet, I think he's a needlepoint guy.

Sears was a hell of a college guard but I think him graduating and letting that Philon kid take a more central role in the offense is gonna pay dividends for Bama this season. He has a very high ceiling.

Exactly. Sears was a high level college guard but all his shooting numbers were down last year. Sears was the only bama player to take more than 300 shots last year. He took just less than 500. Holloway's and Philon's FG% and Holloways 3FG% were far better than Sears last year, though admittedly they probably drew less defensive attention. But what I saw from the kids on Saturday was just great. Even when you subtract a big positive number you can still sometimes experience addition by subtraction.

Sticking to the topic, are we all confident that our three point shooting will improve this season? The Bama game could have been closer if we had knocked down two or three more threes.

Not expecting many assists from him believe me. But if he can score at an efficient level and become average to above average rebounder, he can really help this team. The problem is everything you just said about Sanon could be said for Jackson. There is too much of an overlap there for guys who aren’t showing to have much positional versatility.

He’s so slow to react. There were two rebounds right in his area that he didn’t even move for. He will compete and win vertically for rebounds when they come right to him, but we need more than that. Pitino has to do a major psychological shift on him.

He slides well on defense to cut off drives, but then he can’t stay within 5 feet of a counter move because his hips are too high.

I’m working on a theory and someone back me up if they have any stats to prove it.

103 is a lot of points don’t get me wrong but I think we are going to start looking at a score like that like we used to look at 85 points due to an explosion in 3s and pace.

The pace of the two games we played this year were both an 84 on KenPom. The only game we played faster last year was against Baylor which was a 90! And that game finished 99-98 in 2OT.

Look at the insanely high scoring games this year:

St. John’s beat Quinnipiac 108-74 (Pace 84)
UConn beat UMass Lowell 110-47 (Pace 75)
Indiana beat Marquette 100-77 (Pace 76)
Arkansas beat Southern 109-77 (Pace 81)
Vanderbilt beat Lipscomb 105-61 (Pace 74)
Georgia beat Morehead State 120-81 (Pace 80)

I guess the point I’m making is we played a game with a lot more possessions against arguably one of the best offenses in the game and only gave up 103. I think we will look back on this game later this year as Alabama puts up 120 against some opponents and be pleased with our play, relatively. We have a lot to work on but giving up 100 now is not what it used to be.

Going to be a great season!

Sly,

Serious question. Do you consider yourself an SJU fan or more of a memory lane guy for the teams of the 60s, 70s, 80s?
It seems as if every one of your posts is either a criticism of our current players or our coach and regrets of why last years players left.
A little combination of objectivity and positivity is not a bad thing.

You ask a serious question . I will give you a serious answer although I find the question insulting and offensive .
You don’t know me . To impugn my character as you and a few others have done is without class. The official game stat for Points in the Paint as 54 -40 .favor or Alabama. Points in the Paint refer to points scored in the front Court . Where the Paint is , right . It doesn’t refer to points scored by any player individually . Or , outside the paint .
Obviously , Zuby , Hopkins , Mitchell , scored points outside the paint .. Zuby had 29 and Hopkins 19 are our principal front Court players . They weren’t a factor down the stretch as they didn’t get the ball . Or , were on the Bench .

We all voice our options on here . Opinions are personal and individual in their contexts . Calling me a liar as your buddy did several times is nasty and mean spirited . You didn’t mention that .
You and 8-10 other posters don’t like my opinion . Fine , voice yours and leave mine alone .
You and those others here are very active posters . Everyday .often several times a day .

Equally , I would say to you , there are likely about the same number of people that do like what I post .
But , many of them and I won’t name them
But , we know who they are, Find that a lot of what they post gets criticized just because it doesn’t fit what you or others want to hear or that sees the game differently .

The RJ Luis controversy last season had a lot more posters questioning Pitino’s decision than just me . Go back and look . Even now , a number of posters , still question removing the BE POY from a close game with 4:56 left . I did get some messages from people that questioned Pitino’s decision to bench RJ .,

One of the things that I have never done is demean some one’s opinions or attacked them personally .
Sadly , others haven’t ascribed to that conduct .

I’m surprised at your personal attack too . You are a knowledgeable basketball fan and don’t need to resort to questioning my loyalty to St John’s . Which was a low bow .
I am a proud Alum of the School , donate to the University and been a fan of the BB Team since I was 9 years old . I have a granddaughter who will graduate in May from the Physician Assistant program .
It doesn’t speak well of you to comment as you did .

Pitino is a great BB Coach but , unlike the Pope ,not infallible . He does make mistakes like any Coach .
