Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

We're going to have to significantly improve either our half court offense, or our transition defense.

I think we have a better shot at the latter (because of the point guard situation), but Rick can't afford to keep being so close-minded WRT playing a zone.

Frankly, he should have tried it on Saturday (although I wasn't thinking about it at the time). Would have cut-off the lanes to the hoop that Bama was getting in the second half, after they cooled down from 3.
Implementing a new zone defense mid game is always a winning strategy!

Ole Miss? Iowa St / Baylor and hopefully Houston/Kansas... whoever in the championship game come first.

Good news is... we have a shit ton of Tape for the kids to review and WHOLE week before the next game.

my mood is starting to change... Rather have won, obviously... but Joson /Ian / Sellers now know what high-level guards look like, and we have the staff to implement the correct changes
Couldn't agree more. It's a long season ahead and we're in the mix with a handful of elite teams. We have more talented athletes on the floor this year than we've seen in years. It will be fun ride to watch Pitino mold this bunch into a team over the next several months.

Not more talented defenders at this point, hopefully that changes.

A great poet once said "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouf"... well... we got punched... i trust Rick has what it takes to make the needed changes.

your "classless" observation- assume you are referring to his saying Darling isnt a great defensive play.... Rick is a savant with the mic, i believe he uses it to motivate- similar to the infamous "lateral quickness" post-game 2 years ago
Guys, darling will be the first to tell you he is not a great defensive player. 🤣🤣🤣. No secret here. Stating a readily evident fact that no one disputes is tantamount to throwing someone under the bus? What world are we living in?

The Crimson Tide are coming off a 28-9 season that gave them a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, they entered 2025-2026 after losing stars Mark Sears, Chris Youngblood, Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi and Mouhamed Dioubate.

Oats entered the 2025-2026 season having lost seven of the 10 players who received double-digit minutes the year before. He retained star guards Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., but did not add any singular player who could ease the loss of Sears, a first-team All-American.

Don't forget Philon. Having three playmakers in the backcourt like Philon, Holloway and Wrightsell is a solid foundation for how they play and who takes the shots. It's a big advantage on Nov 8th even if most of the rest of the team is new.

We have the staff...but unless they're freshmen, Joson/Ian/Sellers have already played against high-level guards.
not together...not wearing the same uniform.

This is team is Brand New - and they got their first taste of what Talent/Experience looks like (those guards on Bama have been in their program for more than a couple months)...

As someone mentioned above... we were there. At 8mins and 3mins... game was there... One stop/one rebound can change a game... they'll watch tape- they'll practice - they'll get better. This is what Good, Well-Coached teams do.

Pitino has had an unbelievable career. Master of motivating. Few folks have the credentials to criticize his methods. Very few.
Well, luckily I think for myself, many coaches have had unbelievable careers without being classless. Records have absolutely nothing to do with behavior.
If you are okay with it, fine, I respect that but I would question anyone’s decision to not speak their mind because of another person’s success. Not the way it works in my world.

Offense takes mostly talent and skill Defense takes mostly determination and hard work.
Defense also requires being in great shape. These guys, you would hope, would be in good to great shape already but obviously as the season goes on, and Pitino screams at them at practice, they’ll get it the proper shape.
