Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

I remember them well. We didn't improve much at all between those games and the middle of March relative to the rest of the country. We just beat up on a down Big East.

This team has much more room to improve between now and the end of the season than last year's team did, but pointing to the Baylor and Georgia losses last year to ease concerns isn't applicable here imo. We were essentially the same team at the end of the season that we were during those games.
I take your point, but I do think we improved last year from the November games. I think the defense became more connected and better. I think some roles emerged (or didn't emerge) on the offensive end. I think the team that lost a close one to GA wouldn't have beaten Uconn twice and gotten their clocks cleaned against ARK, a game which we all know was eminently winnable if not for some poor performances and tough breaks.

I agree with you though that I think the ceiling is higher for this group, and I think these early games will help us. If we took a 20 point beat down today, I would be more concerned though not sky-is-falling this early. This one sucked because every loss sucks and there were many moments in the second half when I thought we were going to pull it out. But I'm trying to keep perspective here.

I'm glad someone pointed out the help defense. It was just atrocious, you know, these guards are gonna blow by everyone they play all year you have to adjust. That's where Dillon should have an impact more so than Bryce.
Very similar to the Michigan game two years ago in that regard. Felt like 5 guys playing defense by themselves, we didn’t feel like a unit. That will need to change (I expect it to)

Yes last year’s SJU March team was better than the SJU November team but not by as much as other team’s March vs November teams if that makes sense.

Going into the Georgia game we were 11th on KenPom. We did play a miserable game that day and dropped to 16th immediately after. We finished 14th. We were basically the same team going into the game than we were at the end of the season, relative to the rest of the country

I know one side of the football playing like shit causes locker room issues. Does front court/backcourt disparity like this cause drama?

I think the backcourt will catch up just thought more coming into the season but Ian and Sonon young. But again everyone remember where we were at by the end of the Bahamas and what some were saying

We will be fine once the defense gets settled. Maybe we were overranked . That’s fine. You gotta win games anyway so now we have to earn it back . Our hardest part of the schedule of the first 10-12 games

The bigger question is “ where is my F’ing cheese “

Didn’t say their guards weren’t quicker their guards killed us but how did they beat us at every facet of the game when our front court was better ?

Better ?? Their front Court outscored ours 54-40.
They turned us over more than we did them .
They had a slight rebound edge 40-38 ,
We out scored them by 14 at free throw line as we took over 40 .
But , not enough to offset their out scoring us 33-18 from three

They also scored more 2 point shots
and taking 81 shots to our 63 , I believe .

props to prey and ayo, team really played well when those guys were out there
One of the most talented benches in the history of the sport once our starting lineup consists of Ayo, Ejiofor, Darling, Prey, and . . . I guess whomever pisses RP off the least leading up to the game?

Sly,

MJM's point was about our frontcourt (i.e. Mitchell, Hopkins & Zuby) being better than theirs nothing else. Our starting front court scored 53 points and had 18 rebounds. Bama essentially started 3 guards. Even if you want to consider Philon a frontcourt guy they scored 51 points and had 14 rebounds. How many shots both teams in total took had zero to do with MJM's post/point, smfh.

Thanks. RIF how can we expect more of our team when reading isn’t fundamental for some here

When you watch the game from your sports line app on a phone like a football game the chess pieces going around can distort front court from backcourt. Checkmate Sly
