Alabama (MSG), Sat., Nov. 8, 12 Noon, FS-1/ 1050 AM

Extremely disappointing. We are top 5 this year and Alabama is now a premier basketball program. This would be a sellout for any other program with a top 5 national ranking. I hope I don't see patches of empty seats in the upper bowl on Saturday.
This would be a sell out, possibly, in certain parts of the country. NY/NJ is a different story.

Nothing is “make or break” on Nov 8 in college basketball but, I do think we are going to get a lot of valuable intel on our backcourt. I care far more about process than results right now. Looking to see what backcourt transfers can play at a high level.

And I prefer Kidd Rocks cover/summer anthem “all summer long”. Blends a little werewolf in London in there

Two terms I never thought I'd hear together. Prefer and Kid Rock. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

He lets the forwards initiate the offense when he's our best scorer and the only guy that can get his own shot from deep.
vs Q - he got the ball one time in the back court and was looking to get rid of it right away....

Looks to be a lot more comfy coming off screens/ slashing at this juncture

Precisely why we need to get him comfortable being aggressive. He is too content relying on others right now. He's too good for that. I want him taking all the shots when we need a bucket and there 10 seconds left on the clock.

I agree with you. But we also want Hopkins taking all of the shots. And Jackson. And Zuby. Only so many basketballs to go around.

Survive Alabama, maybe learn something about some guys, and then use the next couple of weeks to establish the roles and structure going forward, I hope.

If there are 13,000 mostly St. John’s fans in the crowd for an early season Noon game that would be great. As long as the crowd is awake and loud we will be just fine. Winning as many of these non conference games are important on many levels and will help drive attendance for the weeknight games in the Big East.

I get what youre getting at... I personally would like to see Sanon shoot the ball if he has 3ft of separation and drive a couple times... hes too athletic not to drive and get to the hoop...

Right now... who do i feel comfortable with 7 seconds left.... I'd have to go with Bryce catching it at the high post... jab step jumper / drive

Do you want to live or die with any of those creating their own shot? Hopkins is a pick your spots kind of guy. He'll kill you in mismatches. Sanon can get it off at will and doesn't carry the same risk of being stripped in the lane.

Marillac wants Sanon taking the last shot every time.

For me, "go create your own shot" is a "break glass in case of emergency" option. You need someone who can do that in case you need it. But it is the thing you go to if you don't have an offensive structure that produces good looks or you haven't gotten your players to operate in that structure or you didn't get the right players to operate in that structure.

Admittedly my view of basketball is out of step with some of the modern trends.

But anyway, I need to see more from Sanon, Jackson, and Hopkins once the team has played more. By the end of November I should have an opinion on who I trust most in that spot. Right now I don't.

Crimson Tide 80
Red Storm 92

Next Monday afternoon we reach our highest national ranking (4) since 1986 and Saturday serves as a precursor to what is this program’s peak over the last 4 decades. It will validate a consistent, new age that is led by the best coach the college game has ever seen. The crowd is the difference. We are over the hump - WE ARE. BACK.

Without any doing any research I would wager that we have only been within the Top4 teams in the country for over a month maybe 1X, 2X max. Win Saturday and this is virtually guaranteed. This is rare air for us gentlemen, savor this. Saturday is HUGE.

We don’t have offensive structure, though. We run a weave, high-ball screen, or let guys one-in-one.

We aren’t UConn.

I'm glad you qualified the first paragraph with the second, because the days of "work it around, try to get a good shot, and whoever has it in their hands at the end of the clock, shoot it" are long over. (As they should be).

Ideally you want somebody like Kadary with the ball in his hands at the end...a guy who can get in the lane at will, take the shot probably 70% of the time, strong enough to get the shot off even with contact, but have the vision to dish it the other 30%. Agree with you that there is no obvious candidate right now, but agree with Marillac that Sanon is the most likely guy. Hopkins is not in that conversation IMO. As you said, need 5 or 6 games for more clarity.

I have to think this is an up and down the court game. I am thinking something like 91-85 for St. John’s. Obviously a game to get this team ready for a big stage Thrilled to have big time college hoops back and involving our team.
