New York Mets 2025 Season

No thank you on Robert.
Don’t want to give up on 4 more years of Vientos control for a 2 month rental who’s barely a starter.
I’d rather run with who we have or call up drew Gilbert from AAA.

Or even give Marte more LF reps( moving nimmo back to CF)& have vientos get abs at dh

Yeah. No way should the Mets make this trade. Vientos has underperformed to say the least. I still hold out hope for him. Robert is not moving the needle at .206. Not prospect hugging at all. I’d deal Vientos in the right deal. This ain’t it.

If CWS got Gilbert with a lower prospect that would be closer to reality. A projected 4th OF type (Gilbert) with some upside. People are split on Gilbert but I am not sure Robert helps us that much this season.

I’d do the trade in a heartbeat. Vientos has no place on this roster anymore. Can’t defend or run, and we have Baty & Maurico + Jett in the system.

Plus, we have Marte as the RH DH. With guys like Nimmo or McNeil maybe needing half-days off, we should be fine at LH DH as well (not even including Winker). Next year, I think it’d be wise to have the DH spot open for some of our aging guys (unless we take a run for Schwarber).

Robert is a Gold Glove defender, best base stealer in the league, and — even despite his struggles — reliably mashes left-handed pitching, which is what we need. Still just turns 28 in August, and has two affordable club options, so it’s not even a rental.

In a 2 month vacuum of course deal is fine.
But marte contract expires EOY. Vientos made for DH next year
vientos has 3.5 more years of team control.
Robert 2 years of “affordable” options are 20 mil each- overpaid, don’t think they’d exercise.
I’d rather re-sign Taylor as 3.0 mil 5th outfielder/ late innings defensive replacement.

There’s a reason Sox are trading him- they don’t plan on exercising his options.
Is he better than Taylor- yes, but I don’t want to sell low on vientos

Robert’s obp has cratered to .291 and his ops is a paltry .630. That is two years in a row and BOTH stats are BELOW league average. True enough guy is a good defender. He also is recently dealing with Abductor strain injury. He has returned to action.

Sounds like ball is in Mets court. The other thing to note is sounds like CWS want more than just Vientos in deal. Something tells me Stearns is not giving in yet (?) and of course CWS are trying to get offers up. We will see what does or doesn’t happen.

Even with his stats, Robert has a .966 OPS against lefties this year. It’s our biggest weakness has an offense. Taylor is also unplayable with his offense. Mike Hampton literally had better offensive stats this year.

I’d have a different feeling on Vientos if he had options, but our inept previous front offices killed his service time by having him sit on Buck’s bench. If he had options, I’d have him in AAA and be ready next year / if an injury arises. It’s too late now.

I’ve always contended we like Vientos more than Mets management for just the reason you alluded to. They literally had this guy rot behind Daniel Voglebach which never made sense. The object should have been what Vientos looked like. Finding out if he could play.

Bottom line…David Stearns it’s your call! 🙂

5 walks a WP and TWO HRs by Chapman is not a good effort by Senga. Gotta challenge guys more later in the count especially.

Overall, still trying to find the strike zone consistently. But he also had quite of few tough calls that could have been called strikes.
You pitch or play to the way a game is being called. His start after the All-Star break he walked 3 in 3 innings, throwing 44 strikes and 39 balls, averaging almost 24 pitches an inning.
So in 2 starts since he came back he is averaging a walk an inning and slightly over 20 pitches. IMO, that’s not on the umps.

On a side note- Blackburn with another nice rehab start at Syracuse AAA,
6 inn 1 R, , 6K. He’s ready to bring back up.
Also Carson Benge crushing AA (1.04 ops) after being promoted from Brooklyn.

I have no use or trust for Blackburn. Hopefully, they move him somewhere else at the deadline. Either that or stay at Syracuse as an emergency in case of emergency break glass guy.

Benge is exciting prospect. He has a real shot to make the team next season. Might start at AAA.
