New York Mets 2025 Season

I argued against the idea Mendoza should be on the hot seat but IMO, he committed one of the real boneheaded pitching moves, letting a starter pitch to “one more” batter deep in the game, provided he doesn’t get on.
Just take him out, let the reliever start the inning. Peterson has one complete game and suddenly he gets treated like Sandy Koufax.
Agree, Mendoza consistently exhibiting the anti-Midas touch the last 6 weeks or so.

The bullpen is completely ravaged, and Peterson is the only starter that can be trusted to carry big innings this year.

I agree that Alonzo has been great this year but my question was where would the Mets be without him?

.500 +/- 2 games.

Not signing him to a longer deal was a rare Stearns miss IMO. Does anyone really think Alonso won't be a substantially similar player in 3 years?

Marillac, not sure I agree this was a Stearns “miss”. I am a huge Alonso homer but Alonso was clearly coming off his worst season in 2024. The Mets had a figure they wanted at a longer term deal. Alonso and his agent Boras didn’t like the number. They gambled and lost. Not one team stepped forward and outdid the Mets offer.

So they gave him the one with a player option. In the end, if the Mets want Pete they probably will have to pay because Pete is having an All Star season. Pete clearly wants to be here and Mets will have another opportunity to sign him after the season. We still don’t know if anyone outside the Mets will want to step up and give a crazy contract to a 31 year old 1B.

This. Team. Isn’t. Good.

They hit home runs or they lose. Mendoza manages like every other Yankee manager since Joe Torre. Hopefully Stearns can work some deadline magic because they apparently have no faith in their prospects to play for this team, trotting the same retread pitchers out and the lineup never changes.

Going to the Cyclones game today.

Been to several Minor League games in the past. Salt Lake Bees had the most scenic park.

Saw a Bingo at Harrisburg game stadium was overrun by “Mayflies” off the Susquehanna River. Yuck. Insect guts all over. We caught deGrom and I called him a “future” closer. Son won’t let me forget. Proves I’m no scout.

Last one was a Savannah Sand Gnats game. None other than Brandon Nimmo starting CF. He just passed 1,000 games. Not bad. Best memory there was meeting a kid with a St. John’s tshirt at the concession stand at Grayson Stadium. It was Frank Violas’ family. He was the pitching Coach at Savannah that year.

Besides these anyone see any minor league games they liked or are worth seeing?
