Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

I had a GREAT day hanging with everyone at SJU Athletic Department today. I'm up on Long Island for a few days and reconnected with my former Asst AT, who replaced me working with basketball...our team is in GREAT hands with Jill providing the best medical care! Met our strength coach, the women's long time strength coach, Joey T, Matty A, John Diffley, Mike Barry, Julie and Rosie in the athletic office, all my guys in compliance and academic support. Did not get to see Fr Rock or Ed Kull as both were in all day meetings. Practice was closed today so I didn't get to watch, but I did get the opportunity to meet most of the players! Even Dylan Wusu was there working out and we reconnected.
At the end of my time the equipment manager gave my son Kyle lots of Nike gear! Fun time being back with "the family"
Wusu knows there is a BIG difference in attacking a student manager and our very own Alumni hall. Red Carpet treatment all the way

Has to clean up his fouls as much as being a more dynamic/less streaky three point shooter. But his size, style and grit make him a more natural fit for the NBA than anyone else ( except for Zuby) on our roster last year
Eminently coachable, team first guy & not an ego maniac. He very well may find a spot in NBA with hard work and a little luck in due time.

It's enjoyable observing Metta's life post basketball. He was very supportive when we had a Reunion for the 1999 Elite 8 team. He has attended games and watched practices recently. He is involved in community events. He recently married his girlfriend and they have a young son.

It has been a Blessing to watch his life unfold from high school to the present. Wishing him all the best as his journey continues.

Now, how about two towering St. John's Legends, these guys turned a lot of New Yorkers into Johnny fans, with no other connections to the school other than watching two native-sons excel at the City Game we all love.

Let's face it New York City's five boroughs produced a way higher % of basketballers than other professional sports (Except the NHL, perhaps 🤪 ;))

I can still root for the 1-2 year $ guys even if not a student in traditional sense...as I assume some do take pride in their remote learning and/or supporting events like Dribblr for a Cure or even Jackson having a basketball camp and putting smile on kids faces they may remember for life. That's more of an education than some meaningless elective class traditional students take

If I remember correctly, both RJ and Zuby were recognized for being exemplary student/athletes this past season.
