Good thing we don’t need Brandon Sproat anytime soon. He had yet another rough outing in Syracuse this afternoon. 6 ER, 4 hits, 3 walks and only 4Ks. Worst of all he gave up 3 HRs. Given they are losing 16-8 no one is pitching particularly well today. In a way it’s good Sproat will need to earn a trip to the Big Leagues. Right now… no chance to rush him.
I don’t know what it is about pitching and Syracuse but a couple of our prospects were performing well until they got there. Not like it’s at altitude or something.Good news is that McLean had a nice start at AAA but of course that was at Jacksonville. He was spotted a 5-0 lead too. Probably a wrap on any idea of him coming up prior to September. The kid could not have had a worse start in AAA. Crazy.
At what point do we shake up the staff there? AA sends them pitcher after pitcher that killed it and more than 2/3’s of them do terribly.I don’t know what it is about pitching and Syracuse but a couple of our prospects were performing well until they got there. The Syracuse game will be broadcast on SNY tonight.Nolan McLean starting tonight for Syracuse. If you have MLB TV app, all minor league games are included. A couple good starts and he will become the golden boy.
Painter a big Filly prospect coming off an injury is also pitching for the Iron Pigs. Great name for a Filly related team.Nolan McLean starting tonight for Syracuse. If you have MLB TV app, all minor league games are included. A couple good starts and he will become the golden boy.
Painter looks very good. Extremely mature approach.Painter a big Filly prospect coming off an injury is also pitching for the Iron Pigs. Great name for a Filly related team.
I like Gilbert. He hits it hard. Syracuse is mostly washed up back up players. Meneses hit a bomb. McLean hanging some pitches. He’ll figure it out. Development takes time. People forget he was a position player splitting time as a Pitcher until a year ago.Painter looks very good. Extremely mature approach.
McLean has great physical tools, but clearly needs more experience to work on his command and pitch mix. Some of his pitches are just filthy. He hit 99.1 on the radar gun on one fastball. I could see him really being a problem if he adds some weight.
The Syracuse lineup is complete trash.
He played football at Oklahoma State too! He’s a freak athletically. He will definitely need 15 starts at AAA. His sweeper is insane.I like Gilbert. He hits it hard. They (the Mets) have soured on Gilbert a bit or so I’ve heard. I would just say I like “tough” players. Gilbert, from at least what I have seen and read, is a grinder. I wouldn’t count him out. Those type of players seem to find their way to the field whether it is here or elsewhere. He played football at Oklahoma State too! He’s a freak athletically. I’m not high on Gilbert. Seems like a backup utility outfielder on this team. Likely trade bait. I love Jett Williams.

He is also coming off an injury plagued season in 2024. He certainly lost development time. In 2023 he hit .289 with 18HRs and a .381obp. The Organization is with you. Clearly not thought of as highly as he was.Being known as a grinder is what has carried him this far. He's he hitting .244 in a park/league where our top arms have 5.00-7.00 ERAs. Any value he has to me is in CF.
He doesn't seem like such a grinder statistically. He's not a kid who is getting extra bases on the basepaths like Jett or Acuna. He's got 2 triples, not many doubles, and virtually no steals since we acquired him in 2023.
I don't get how this kid was ever ranked top 100 let alone top 30 at one point.
Acuna’s lack of power is concerning. It’s really tough not getting at least 10-12 homers from second base. He had 3 last year in 14 games! That kind of quieted that down those concerns for me, but this past week I was like, wait, this kid has no homers and we are in mid-April?He is also coming off an injury plagued season in 2024. He is not as good or even comparable as Jett.
Acuna? I am not sure yet about Acuna. Acuna is a speed first and defense guy. He’ll have a roll because of it. Of course we have a little Acuna love affair but his .ops is currently below MLB average at .658. Average is .700 and above. He is also striking out at a high rate with no power. He has zero HRs, zero triples and 6 doubles. This is not to shit on Acuna. A blind man can see his value. I just question how high the ceiling is.
Hello anybody home? Mid April? It’s mid May!Acuna’s lack of power is concerning. It’s really tough not getting at least 10-12 homers from second base. He had 3 last year in 14 games! I love how the speed causes issues. Fielders hurry throws and pitchers are really affected with him on base.
I like that he played center when we went up 4-0. If he can play an above average CF in addition to his infield defense, he will have a place for years as a utility guy.
That’s ok. My post says “he’ll have a roll (role?!) ….” Maybe I was hungry or something at the time.Hello anybody home? Mid April? It’s mid May!![]()
He reminds of some of the guys who played infield when I was growing. Good fielders with speed. Difference was guys like Larry Bowa put the ball in play more but overall it was the same.Acuna’s lack of power is concerning. It’s really tough not getting at least 10-12 homers from second base.
